  • Hi -just found this forum and it's really great that parents are getting together to talk through a lot of things which the powers that be should already have told us...

My daughter got 99 in AQE and hopes to get a place at Royal School Armagh. She has one brother and sister already there. Not really sure if this is enough or not and just need reassurance, I suppose. Anybody have kids who did the AQE last year for RSA? I know it's not automatically going to be the same but would be good to know.
  • Top tip . check your childs DOB is correct as some were wrong last year and a max of 3 points could have been lost. Could be enough to jump quintiles. You have to ring AQE office to check as its not on saturdays documentation.
    good luck!:j:j:j

At the post above, is a copy of the table produced by a local newspaper for last years intake ranges.........just scroll down to read all details for Royal School Armagh. Hopefully, if similar this year, your daughter's 99 will be fine.

Superdad, on Page 2 of these posts, you will see the scores accepted. Lowest for Royal School Armagh last year was 96, so you are in with a good shot of getting in, if this years marks are similiar!

At last - interview in school on Wednesday. It would appear our primary is holding all interviews AFTER the results came out, which is against HER directive!! Have now heard a number of other scores in the school and my son seems to have done alright in comparison. So, feeling a bit more relieved now.

Thanks to Doggies and Ex-Spendalholic for comments.

My Daughter also went through all this last year, so I understand all the questions, concerns etc. The most important advice I can give is what Ex Spendaholic has just stated-

Don't worry about the score, just pick the schools you want in strict order, 1st choice, 2nd choice etc etc, this is very very important. Don't let the primary head or who-ever advise otherwise. Let the clearing system sort it all out.......................... Good luck to all

Put your first choice down as no school can discriminate against you if the form comes to them and it is at say your 3rd choice as you did not fulfill first two schools criteria/score too low. The 3rd school has to treat the application as if it were first choice and if they are intaking lower scores you could displace children already provisionally allocated a place. This seems to be the reason that the process takes so long to complete.
The only proviso to the above is that you must put a couple of realistic choices down too as if all your choices say take Q1 or A's and you are a Q3/C then it is unlikely you will get in. Use all 5 choices if you are putting grammar schools with usually high result intakes down.
MAKE SURE YOUR PREFERENCES ARE IN STRICT ORDER 1ST, 2ND ETC OF THE SCHOOLS YOU ASPIRE TO!!
We did our interviews pre results coming out so had to discuss options based on performance up to exams. As it happens these were pretty much spot on.
