    Still not found an answer.

An answer to what? What precisely remains unaddressed on the multiple threads where you have asked broadly the same question on numerous occasions with broadly the same anxiety ("who pays for their keep when I lose their child tax and child benefit?").

You have been told that if your children aren't in employment or education, then you cannot expect to continue to receive child related benefits and them also to receive adult related benefits when they reach working age.

To summarise, if they are not in education or employment,

    - they can claim job seekers allowance
    - they cannot receive housing benefit in their name from the council if they live with you
    - that you should inform the HB dept of their change in status so they can adjust your claim which will be either a small change or no change
    - tax credits will be affected and child benefit will cease
    - that you can check the impact of their switch from dependents to non-dependents on your means tested benefits on the Turn2us online benefit checker
    - that the £750 rent you are charged does not represent 80% of your income
    - that you should negotiate or impose an agreement with your children on their contribution to household expenses.

Your local council can advise you of the impact on Council tax.

Do many adult children living at home pay for their own food and utilities?

I certainly did- my keep covered rent, food/cleaning etc (and I also bought a lot of food too), utilities and so on! I was working though ;).

Sorry to sound harsh, but you knew this day would come one day. What have you done to prepare for it?

The OP works full time, and relies on the current benefits or she would go under.

I think she is to be supported and hurrahed, as despite being a single parent, she's supported her family herself, with only a top up from benefit, as opposed to so many we hear about, who allow the tax payer to be responsible for all their income.

She's set a great example to her children, and I don't doubt they anticipate finding work. Clealry the OP is ismply concerned that she will go under if they are unable to do so.

Your question seems a little unnecessary, she works full time and keeps a roof over her family's head ~ what more would you have had her do?
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
