Linda, Have you got Rapport on there because your bank recommended it?

If so, keep it in place. If you do have account problems and you've removed it, they'll use that as an excuse to wriggle out of their obligations.

Avast free is perfectly OK; their paid-for version has some anti-phishing tools but Rapport is providing you with as much protection as it would.

As long as you don't go clicking links in random emails you should never get into trouble. You strike me as being quite a cautious, careful user. I think you'll be fine.

Thats a good idea, yes it was recommended by A&L, at the moments its only turned off, I shall turn it back on and see how it goes.

No, I never touch emails that are from the bank, or say they are ;) or any others for that matter.

If it was mandatory, or a way or wriggling out of a possible fraud claim, a bank would say so in their T&C's, I'm not aware of any that do.

google rapport slow - 4.3M results
google rapport problems - 12.8M results

Agreed, also I've yet to see a Linux version.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Yes, I over-egged it a bit; "they could" became "they will" somewhere along the line. However, every bank's T&Cs have a clause to the effect of "the user will take all reasonable precautions"; I'm fairly sure that if they've recommended a piece of software and you've ignored that recommendation then they'll argue that you haven't complied with the "reasonable precautions" clause.

It's actually quite rare for an individual piece of software to be responsible for a machine being slowed down; it's conflicts which generally cause problems. Hence some users will swear blind that x has brought their machine to a standstill while others call them liars and idiots.

Personally, I've never had a problem with Rapport. It runs nicely alongside Avast on my Windows 7 system. Other people's experiences will vary.

    Hi Linda

No offence but basically your PC is 10years old and needs replacing.

Bite the bullet and get a new one because what you get now compared to 10 years ago is fantastic.

I sold my old one, which was 4 years old, last November and went for this one from Dell.

Or you can just buy the PC:

If it does the job, it doesn't need replacing, 10 years old or not.

What's your commit charge now, have you followed all the steps in the guide? Post a fresh hijackthis log.

As for rapport or not, there are threads on this forum and elsewhere testifying to it slowing machines down, and causing other problems with surfing, both of which the OP was experiencing, many other pieces of software can do the same
