Why didn't you brake and leave a gap. rather than driving next to a truck?
I don't like them next to me for too long.

thanks : ) I have tried this but not had any luck- apparently until the claim is settled my insurance company logs everyone involved as being at fault so other companies won't touch me. Guess I will have to chase up the police etc to try and get something cleared up

So does this mean if you're the driver at fault you cannot get insurance again???

  • a porche... in my dreams lol
  • I was way in front of him to start with then he pulled up behind. He knew I was there, otherwise he wouldn't have moved into the middle lane. I was keeping an eye on him for most of the time just to make sure he didn't do what he actually went and did...maybe I should just take the train in future
  • from what I have learned on here , even if you are at fault you should still be able to get insurance, it seems something has gone drastically wrong in my case......

whilst you have a claim in process, then no other insurer will touch you

has your current insurer cancelled your policy? if not, then just continue insuring through them - or have you now let the policy lapse, past renewal? if so, then you have basically stuffed yourself

however, once your claim is resolved, then you will be able to get insurance again, although you will have higher premiums due to the accident

also why are you worried about costs incurred for the hire vehicle. if the claim is found in your favour, then you just claim back your expenses from the lorry drivers insurance company (keep all receipts/paperwork)

i would assume the only reason the lorry driver is still being able to drive around carefree, is the fact his lorry most likely didnt come off too badly in the accident, and his insurance isnt due for renewal yet - although saying that, having an accident doesnt normally result in a policy being cancelled, thats usually due to non payment of premiums

Don't mean to sound like you are being obstructive but there must be some factors here you are not telling us.

So you are saying that if you put your details into a price comparison site (eg moneysupermarket, confused.com) you get back no results.

This is way too much of a generalisation. I had a crash in March and it still isn't settled. I had to declare an unsettled claim when I renewed my insurance in December and I got loads of quotes.
  • hi Flea, I'm hoping that it is a case of a claim still pending. No my insurance has not been cancelled and I hadn't let it lapse.
I know that the lorry drivers insurance company should pay for the hire car...I have just been listening to too many scare stories I guess. I was concerned that I would never be able to get insurance again, I also know there is a time limit on how long I can use the hire car before I become liable for payments. I think what might have caused this confusion is also the fact that the lorry driver is with the same insurance comapny as me..so they are fighting amongst themselves so to speak and yes the lorry driver is still driving around as he sustained no damaged as he pushed rather than bumped me
