yes, all the software suggested is free, not sure which you are referring to - avast/malwarebytes?

Sorry - the Avast one - there are three options, and I picked the free/basic one.

Malwarebytes finished about 10 mins after i went out, and only found one infection which i corrected. Ive just shut down and restarted to install avast/get rid of mcafee. Funny, I always thought Civilisation didnt need much, I like to play it when I'm waitng for other things to happen -but obvoulsy wrong there too!

Re point 7 - reset internet explorer - do i need to do the same thing to firefox (or IE, eventhough i dont use it?)
    Cheers

you can leave firefox for now,

disable these from startup using msconfig, unless you know you want them running all the time

follow all the steps in the guide, then reboot and post a fresh log and commit figures

Civilization3.exe 5972 Console 0 68,152 K not that much, but could cause swapping if it tips your commit charge over the edge

    what did malwarebytes find?

You have x10net running, any video over mains devices installed - eg cctv?

Your figures look a lot better - you've got 800MB RAM free, compared to just 54MB before. Does the computer feel any faster/more responsive?
