Fencing - front of house

Can you not fit your own fence at the front?
We have been saving up to do our back garden, and we are putting our own fencing at the front too in the Spring.
I wouldn't know if the HA would do it because it never even entered my head to ask them.
Surely it wouldn't be a lot to buy smaller panels, or maybe cut down the panels they are going to put in?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I see where the op is coming from because i have just had a wall built in my front and when reversing out i can not see kids at all and my car is a land-rover that's high....try and stick to your guns m8 because it is a safety problem.. iknow where you are coming from
mines a disco - so can can imagine the problem I have as the car is on the road before i have any vision of traffic/people.0 -

No I would not buy/put up the fence as it is part of the council upgrade programme and I am asking them to do what they have done with all my neighbours - i.e. put in a 3ft fence! I am the only one in my whole district that has a 6 ft fence and it sticks out a mile!
PS - I would ask HA before spending any money - you might be surprised.0 -

Aren't they just replacing it with what was already there though?
How did you manage to live with the 6ft one beforehand ?
Can't understand why they wouldn't just replace it with what everyone else has been given, unless it's incase they did and then complained that you wanted it replacing like for like? (Not that you have or would, but some people are like that)Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Reverse in and drive out.0

I suggest that if you don't like it, just by a house that suits your needs rather than complaining about not liking how others peoples money is spent on you.0

Perhaps if you pulled out of your drive slowly and carefully the fence wouldn't such a massive massive massive safety hazard (lol).
You were rude to people from the outset - THAT'S why people flamed you, not because you live in a council house - but yep you're being incredibly ungrateful, getting free repairs and whining about that, if you don't like it there are plenty of private landlords who will leave you with the fence you've already got, whether it's falling down or not. Your neighbours probably have lower fences because they've paid for them themselves - always a course of action open to you but nope, complaining so the rest of the world does it is always better... have you demanded the gold-plated taps in the bathroom and jacuzzi bath yet too?Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Its clear the height of the fence doesnt really cause you too much of a problem otherwise youd have removed it already.
What you mean is you think a small fence would look nicer, (and as you've mentioned fit in with those around you). Thats ok. You're allowed to have a preference for aesthetic reasons.
The inability of a council to listen to reasonable requests is the penalty you suffer for your ability to buy a cheap house and pay cheap rent. Tough luck I'm afraid.0 -
IIRC, a fence erected on to a highway should be no more than 1M in height.
Call your local council's planning department and check!0 -
