Online Brake Parts ?

Sorry not to have responded sooner, but thanks for all the replies. Some helpful links, though the general concensus seems to be try a local factor. I'll have a look around and compare against the main dealer.
It's an old Vauxhall Astra by the way, in reply to Optimus ( what a great user name !! )
Thanks once again.0 -
Update on the poor packing of parts received from Eurocarparts.
The replacement pads were received today, BUT they were packed in exactly the same way as before , i.e. no additional packing in the box
Fortunatly ithey survived this time, since this time they delivered to my work (shorter trip)
But it seems the unsuitable packing of items is a standard practice for them.
Won't be using them again0 -
ECPs packaging is always in Oversize boxes... Often with little or no padding. If it is padded it tends to be the Giant Bubble wrap squares..0

Don't know if Mintex or Ferrodo would agree with you.
Saying as Mintex advertise as oe quality, and Ferodo claim 8/10 top selling european cars use Ferodo as oe

I agree you can buy premier oe or aftermarket pads (serviceline) from Ferodo though.

Oddly enough, a lot of dealers I've been to offer the same option.
So if you do use a dealer, make sure they're not selling you a service product, which will be aftermarket grade. oe product is dearer normally.
Not that's there's anything wrong with the service or aftermarket products, just that sometimes they forget to mention you've been "downgraded".
Maybe by European manufacture they mean ALL the Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen/Lancia/Yugo etc, but none of the BMW/VW etc!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
Cut out all these issues and go to the local factors, they HAVE to be competetive. Tell'em it's cheaper on the net and they will try and beat it, :money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Tried that at factors local to me (part of a small chain form whom i have had good service from before) and they didn't even try and come close on around £500 of parts delivered (they wanted that then the vat on top), they just said OK so my money went elsewhere
I havent got that money to waste0 -

That's fair enough, neither have I,;), but we have to try, however for me my 2 local motor factors are two of the biggest online sellers, so it can work. :T

Times may have changed, but we sold Mintex/Ferodo/Lucas-Girling pads at the Partco I worked at, and Mintex were by far the worst of the named brands. The write up may suggest OE template, but doubt very much that the materials/quality will be the same.
Maybe by European manufacture they mean ALL the Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen/Lancia/Yugo etc, but none of the BMW/VW etc!
I don't think they have changed.
I don't think many VW garage workers would be on here rubbishing Mintex and Ferodo, and expect to be taken seriously tbh.
As for the cars, look at the pictures in the link.0 -
Has any car that's been stuffed into the hedgerow ever been proved to have failed becuase of substandard brake parts???
The answer is NO, all after market parts will meet MOT standard and that is the only measurement that means anything in normal time.
How long they last?, which to be honest is secondary is another matter.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
