Can anyone recommend a decent site for buying brake pads and discs please ? A quick Google turns up hundreds on online shops, I just wondered if anyone can recommend ( or warn against ! ) any sites in particular. They all seem to be way cheaper than Halfrauds :-) Many thanks.

Eurocarparts.com are good and there are discount codes out there (easy enought to find with a bit of googling)
GSF are good as well
Don't rule out ebay especially if the parts are a defined brand (mintex, ferodo, EBC etc), Many factors seem to clear new ols stock on there and people often sell if theve ordered the wrong stuff so can get some good bargains.
Have used autopartswarehouse on ebay there (they also have a .co.uk website)
The cheapest can be a false economy as they dont last/lost of dust0 -
Just received my 1st order from Eurocarparts.com.
Ordered brake pads, parts were shipped in manufacturers box, inside another box double the size with no additional packing, so rattled around inside, manufacturers box broke up leaving parts loose inside outer box, which then proceeded to knock their way out of outer box, if there were any small parts they would be gone.
Had I been at home when delivery was made I could/would have refused it of course.
Then to cap it all, they had sent the wrong pads anyway.
They are now sorting it out, but not very concerned/apologetic about it.
Not a great first time experience - "first impressions" etc etc0 -
The problem with brake parts is that you really need to go in with the old parts to make sure the replacements are correct, many cars have several alternative fittings, can't beat a visit to a proper motor factor or Eurocarparts/GSF, forget the high street accessory type shop or warehouse, they are boy racer hang outs.
Another possibility to double check if distance prevents is to go to Mintex/Textar website, and download their parts catalogue.
Scrolling down you will find your car and the part number for the part...you can also find silhouette's of the brake shoes/pads in question complete with measurements, simple enough to remove your pads and measure them up and compare to the diagram, then you have a correct part number to begin with...a good factor will have part number referrals from good makes.
Contacting Mintex they will be able to give you a list of their local suppliers...good quality at a decent price i've found.0 -

ive bought plenty of brake stuff from ebay.
but recently i bought a set of shoes from a local motor factor with a good trade discount. full set of focus shoes for £13!...work permit granted!0 -
Agree, with the multiple fitment thing, one of my cars around a changeover year has 'old' type on rear and 'new' type on front even though its the old shape.
The apec braking catalogue is also good for fitment, i find it easier to navigate than the mintex one0 -
Online is fine untill there are multiple choices, and then it usually goes wrong..
Please stick wih and support your local motorfactor, they are quite likely to be an online supplier anyway, plus it's a whole lot more easy to change wrong bits :T:T:T:T:T, 100%I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I've used
http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/
they supply a few makes, if you want Mintex, it's better to phone them, and they'll supply them for the online price, otherwise you'll get whatever they pick off the shelf, which will be decent branded ones none the less.0 -
You may be surprised by the Dealer prices? And not in a bad way!! I have often quoted for brakes and they've marveled at how much cheaper we are than Halfrauds...and we dont need to see the old ones or measure the discs in order to get it right 1st time!!
When it's something as inportant as brakes, I'd always go OE. And I've been the other side of the fence, having worked at a factors for 11yrs, and I saw faulty discs & pads coming back warped/squeeling/falling apart EVERY WEEK, but have not seen a single set of brakes come back faulty within the 2year manufacturers warranty period after 6 years at a Dealership.
There is not another manufacturer out there that can claim OE spec. They may use the same machines to make the parts, but the materials used are far inferior on the Mintex/Ferrodo/Girling etc and will not last as long or stop you as well.
A few extra quid, but may save you an accident, or God forbid a life.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -

Don't know if Mintex or Ferrodo would agree with you.
Saying as Mintex advertise as oe quality, and Ferodo claim 8/10 top selling european cars use Ferodo as oe

I agree you can buy premier oe or aftermarket pads (serviceline) from Ferodo though.
http://www.ferodo.co.uk/ferodo_web/car-products.aspx
Oddly enough, a lot of dealers I've been to offer the same option.
So if you do use a dealer, make sure they're not selling you a service product, which will be aftermarket grade. oe product is dearer normally.
Not that's there's anything wrong with the service or aftermarket products, just that sometimes they forget to mention you've been "downgraded".0
