Might be an idea to switch Windows Updates to auto as well! SP2 was released as long ago as mid-2004, so your OS was years out of date.

Well here is a few things you can do.
1) Get ALL updates for your laptop, SP2 was out in 04 I believe which shows you are massively out of date with your OS, so get that sorted.
2) Get another device (ipod touch, mobile phone, a different laptop) to connect and use your WiFi connection, make sure that is not the issue.
