Franby - we had kohl rabi too. I love it, and have tried growing it myself. I like it cubed and steamed but there is a thread here. I also have an A&C box, it is expensive but it does force me eat more veg

Huxley - j. artichokes (the infamous fartichokes!), last time we had them I did them as a gratin, sliced, and then slowcooked in cream, I think it was a Nigel Slater recipe. HTH

    Hello everyone,

beautiful cold, bright, windy day here so all of my ropes are full of washing. It seems so long since I saw washing dancing on the line.
    Aaaahhhh! simple pleasures:)

Have lentil soup on cooker and when it is ready I will zap it with hand blender and let it cool ready to be portioned for freezer. Cheap and tasty meal. Love it served with fresh crusty bread.

Have also minced beef out defrosting and hopefully will cook that overnight in slow cooker. Will also portion it up and save in freezer for quick meal when I don't have the time or inclination to start from scratch.

Have been using up some of the stores I have in the house rather than going to the supermarket. Shocked at how much everything is increasing in price. Lots more people around the whoopsie counter now than in the past I have noticed.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!

Billie-jo know what you mean about the footie. Can't stand it. But for the duration of the six nations I become a Rugby fanatic. Important match is tomorrow for me but Dad is currently jumping up and down about kick off this evening. (Split household - Mum and I are Sctoland, Dad England and Sister whoever is winning :rotfl:)

... I'm English, so I'm pleased with todays result, but having said that, I think I may well have been Welsh in a previous life. I prefer to watch Wales play and when their National Anthem plays, my TV gets cranked up to as loud as it will go for the duration, and it makes the hairs on the back of my arms and neck stand up. It is, without doubt the best National Anthem i in the world!. It's rousing and passionate, how a NA should be, not the dispassionate, dreary dirge that is God Save The Queen .......... kicks soap box into corner ...

So it's not just the GC we have in common!!! :T I agree with you all, footie is just boring but a good game of rugby is just soooo exciting. Hope you enjoyed the entertainment yesterday Billie-jo. We were exhausted (and a little tipsy) after the Wales game yesterday - superb game and spent most of second half praying Italy wouldn't come all the way back at us.

Good luck to you and your Mum this afternoon cat_smith! And a great result yesterday for your Dad and other England supporters - on for the Grand Slam now which will be a real boost for you before the World Cup later this year.

Now I am biased, I freely admit it, but I agree so much with you Hippeechiq. Our anthem honours our people, our land, our forefathers, our poets, our soldiers and freedom. All sentiments that bring the anthem closer to the heart than honouring a family over and above the people. Sorry I don't wish to cause offence and off the soapbox now too!!! :o

We had a fantastic array of grub for half time all home made (friend brought some too) - pizza, corned beef pasties, quiche and apple cake. We would never have done this before the GC and would have just spent a fortune on airy nothingness that would have been gone in a flash and left us hungry for more. This thread is such a learning and supportive place to be. :T

Oh and on the chocolate stuff recipe Hippeechiq, OH makes a version of this too (haven't had it for a while was putting on too much weight!:rotfl:) but his includes sultanas and/or raisins in the biscuit crumb mix. At least I can con myself there's something 'good' about eating it that way!

I'll be back later to update after the MrT order arrives.

    Have a great Sunday all,

    Hi All,
i am new to this thread! have been watching you since last week though, and waiting for the new month to start so that i can join in!

So can you please put me down for £220 for march please!

Can i ask how you all total it up? Do you just keep all your reciets and add it up at the end of the month? I think that will be my plan. I am contemplating doing a monthly shop instead of weekly..but not sure yet!

EDIT- its ok, i have just read the 1st post in this thread that explains how to total it....should have done that in the 1st place!
  • Please could i join the grocery challenge. I have been lurking for a while and have plucked up the courage to keep tabs on my spending!! This is a five week month for us so could i be put down for
£350 for March please. Thank you

  • I did it!! Well sort off LOL!!!!
Actually am £6 over but thats only cos we had a 2 curry meal from sains last nite,,it was lovely!!
I have also spent £20 on 3 for 2 cereal some squash that was on offer from lidl and a few other offers ,,not used any of it yet so i guess i am over by £26 so i havent done it pah!:o
Or i could include the £20 worth of stuff i have stocked up on in next mnths budget,,,,agghhh i dont know what to do with it,,,i could just allow an extra £20 a month for offers,,that way i can still stick to my challenge without losing control of the budget.

Anyhow I am happy about my controlled spending this month and thats the main thing ;)
So on that note firstly thankyou to all who post much appreciated and to those who run the thread ;-)
Secondly can I be put down for £375 again for March please, thankyou

2 NSD's :j which is a miracle as its DH's birthday today , I did get a dine for £10 M+S offeron friday for today but that came out of a different budget

also DD1 is doing A level cookery and has to do so many dishes and then photogragh them , unfortunately she had her phone stolen at school with all the photos on so the only thing to do was to make them again so she could photogragh them . so far this weekend she has done: orange cake, peach and cream cake, chocolate mousse, fruit cake, choc and nut brownies and lemon tarts. luckily i had everything in but now my baking supplies are depleted , i will end up spending more in march to stock up again

rosieben you are doing a fab job keeping on top of all the recipes - thankyou
