The things you learn on this board:T:Thippeechiq ive never heard of the egg thing m but will try it from now onThis step I learned from a commercial fisherman who had to keep eggs indefinately while out on his boat. Every time you take your eggs out of the refrigerator, turn the carton over to put back in the refrigerator. This will keep the eggs edible indefinately even without refrigeration. The reason that eggs are placed pointy side down is because it keeps them fresh longer as the egg yolk stays centered.Always store them this way in the refrigerator and always in a sealed box,as this way they will last up to 14 days and maybe longer.Aug11 £193.29/£240

Just updated my signature. My target was 250, I have spent 331.51 this far, so I have already overspent 83.51 on groceries/housekeeping for the month. However it was my first grocery challenge so I have been a bit clueless, and it is still a learning process.
The biggest overspending has occurred this weekend, when we were away. I clearly should get better at packing food rather than buying junk food along the road, though it isn't always easy to find the time to sort out food ahead of time. Perhaps I should also consider some sort of cooler bag for the car if we go away on a weekend trip in spring/summer.
I also do spend a fair bit on magazines, papers etc. as a part of my shopping, which I know do not need.
I already look forward to next month's challenge, and hope I can do better then. My cupboards are full, so I should be able to have a month mainly cooking from what I already have :-) Have also stocked up on a mega pack of laundry detergent, and have cleaners etc - those really bump up the bill.
Was tempted to re-stock on protein bars for OH but they are soooo expensive. I wonder if I could make them using protein powder, rolled oats etc.0 -
i've managed to squirrel away £50 of this months budget, depsite making the mistake of taking OH to the shops with me twice! Our month ends next tues and I have £30 for some fresh f&g, milk and bread so think we will do it.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I cant believe I am doing so well this month. Only 56.69 so far this month. I have enough to see us till Thursday when my bro is back so will be one more mouth to feed. I have 53.41 off budget left so far, so thinking I may go do a large shop on Friday as by then we will be in need of some more groceries. The large shop should then cover me for the first two weeks of march as well. I have also written meal planners for the next three weeks so that I know what to buy. Have also found out that our local butchers do a 10% off day on a wednesday, so think I will go there and get my mince, eggs etc as theres is cheaper at the mo than the new big SM we have had built in town. Nice to be able to support a local business as well.MAY NSD's

Hello  shinydriver, don't be too down on your self I feel you did very well last month especially as it was your first month.
Just to let you know you in your signature only have put your aim for March GC as £215 not the £225 as in your post, this may have been intentional so sorry for interferring, good luck for next month and just remember you would have spent much more if it wasn't for the GC.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Hi all. Just to let you know I'm adhering to GC when on holiday. Today rather than leave the leftover parents croissants that they ordered from room service. We saved them to take as snacks during the day to avoid horrendous tourist prices around Paris. Food over here is coming out of holiday budget, but its the mindset that counts:j
Looking foward to joining you again in March.
ETA Updated sig for Feb. Had forgotten HUGE DR order. but nearly all of it is left in the freezer so not too worried about the £12.26 overspend as I'd reduced budget so much in only 2 months.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -
