This is a money saving forum! By its very nature it is for people who are prepared to do research and "cut a deal" if one is available not the "vast majority" who cannot be bothered.

I would have to agree that this forum has many people like yourself spouting opinion but when you filter out the nonsense there is considerably more than 1% of fact, I am sure most subscribers (not necessarily regular posters) would agree 99% with me on that ;).

I come here for facts, as a consequence I just had to respond to your opinion which only serves to increase your post count.

Then I'll be happy to restate my opinion that BT Broadband is overpriced ;)
And a perusal of their published prices against those of other ISP's will demonstrate this to be factually correct.
Whether or not people are able to negotiate a better price is not relevant to that point.

But a year's sub to BTV would almost pay for a PVR...
It's nothing more than Freeview with some on-demand content, and it locks you into BT's overpriced broadband.
Humax 9300T is the one to go for.

I am moving soon to an area where they dont have virgin. :( I hate BT and Sky........... my opinion. so Thanks for the advise on this freeview recorder, it will do me nice. :)

To refer to one point in you OP, I not sure there ARE any Freeview recorders that includes HD yet.

Personally, I went with the DVD recorder with hard drive (doesn't depend on discs for recording), and this enables me to transfer / record to disc anything I want to keep long term. TV plus home movies etc. I can live without the HD for these purposes. (Oh, and it upscales DVD's too.)

Thanks for that info macman. Must say I haven't looked for a little while for the latest incarnations.

Neither of your recommendations have a DVD component though, and from my perspective, that is far more valuable than the HD feature, BUT, maybe the OP wants a seperate blue ray player anyway, so it won't be a feature He's bothered by.

From what I hear, Humax is an excellent choice, whether for satellite or Freeview connections.

If you want to archive programmes, then yes a DVD recorder is better, as it has unlimited capacity. But for short term capture a PVR is much more user friendly.

Let`s face it, there is so much tripe on the telly that you would be hard pressed to record one channel, let alone two, whilst watching a third.

With this in mind I can`t see the point in spending a fortune for a pvr.
This link is for a Humax at just under £80 and although it` a grade A (refurb) it`s got a 12 months warranty.

I bought a Sony RDR-HXD890 a couple of years ago for about £170. Brilliant for copying from Sky+ or recording Freeview before editing out adverts and then archiving to DVD.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I don't understand the difference between a hard drive recorder and a PVR.

I bought a Panasonic DMR-EX83EB, and it couldn't be any easier if it tried. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMR-EX83EB-K-250GB-Recorder-Freeview/dp/B0038VZXNW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1300955114&sr=8-2

Call up the list of recordings (one button) move to the recording you want to watch (arrow keys) and press 'play' (one button)
