Should I get a Freeview Recorder?

I have an HD Ready TV with freeview, and I currently record from it on a DVD player than uses DVD-RW (rather than a hard disc)
The DVD is on it's last legs and I want to be record from the Freeview Tv. Would I be best to buy a Digital TV Freeview + Recorder?
I do not have Sky or anything like that. Also i've checked and Freeview HD won't be able in my area for another year, so it's prob not worth getting a Freeview HD recorder.
I'm not at all informed on this, so would appreciate any help .. thanks

Most people choose a recorder that is able to record from one channel while watching another.
All the available models are listed side by side here so that you can compare the features and make your choice.

Thank you, good point I hadn't thought of that. Would you know if the 'dual recording' ones record 2 channels at once?0 -
PVR's are much better than DVD recorder's for short term recording/playback/series record etc. DVD's are more what you neeed for long term archiving.
The ones with twin tuners will certainly record 2 channels at once.
I suggest you look at the Humax PVR 9300T from Richer Sounds. Available in 320GB or 500GB versions. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You will be able to record two channels at once and you will be able to view a previous recording at the same time.
I suggest you look at the Topfield which has loads of Apps available which you can use to customise the recorder.0 -
If you have a BT phone/broadband you could look at BT vision, that way you can get the PVR without having to pay upfront for it. After the end of your initial contract you can cancel the £12.50 per month subs and keep the equipment for freeview/recording & iPlayer.
Dont forget that you can get cash back on quidco as well.
I got mine on a 12 month contract, 3x months at £7.50 + 9 months at £12.50 -£15 quidco cashback so £120 total including 12 months subscription to their gold pack.0 -
But a year's sub to BTV would almost pay for a PVR...
It's nothing more than Freeview with some on-demand content, and it locks you into BT's overpriced broadband.

Did you even read my post, or do you just see BT and have to make a negative post?
If everyone posted facts and not opinions then people could choose what suits their requirements.
Why is BTs broadband overpriced? I will pay the equivalent of £21.27* per month this year for my line rental, anytime calls, 200 texts, broadband option 1 and BT vison Gold. On top of that I recieved a free router, free BT vision box and of course I have a second telephone number for Broadband talk if I need it. I also have a BT credit card that gives me credit towards my bill - of course I settle the bill every month.
So BIGMAC Can you find me a better deal?
*Calculated prior to the reduction in price for the On Demand content, so you can knock 9months x £2.50 (£22.50) or £1.87pm off that figure = true cost of £19.40 per month.0 -
I stated that BT's broadband is overpriced. I didn't mention it's telephony, line rental, on demand services, or even it's credit card...
Almost every other ISP's broadband is cheaper than BT's, and that includes not just LLU providers, but those reselling BT Wholesale services as well.
If you've cut a competitive deal with BT, then good for you. But that doesn't alter the fact that the vast majority of BT customers who pay the advertised rates are paying more than they need to.

This is a money saving forum! By its very nature it is for people who are prepared to do research and "cut a deal" if one is available not the "vast majority" who cannot be bothered.
I would have to agree that this forum has many people like yourself spouting opinion but when you filter out the nonsense there is considerably more than 1% of fact, I am sure most subscribers (not necessarily regular posters) would agree 99% with me on that
.
I come here for facts, as a consequence I just had to respond to your opinion which only serves to increase your post count.0 -
I would recommened the Humax PVR, 320gb model.

I wouldnt be without it now. We also dont have freeview HD coming to our area for some time so settled for this one. By the time freeview HD is available here the price for the freeview HD version of the Humax will be far more reasonable.0
