I got charged £3 for this text and on checking my bill, I can find another charge for the same number on the received texts on 17/1/2011. I have lodged a complaint on https://www.phonepayplus.org.uk
It tells me that these texts are sent by a company 2ergo Limited
I have never subscibed to this company or any similar services ever.

I received another text after this text today which read as Free mesg: Iphone4 Club Quiz! Each week we give you the chance to win an Iphone4! To unsub txt STOP to 82024 £3 per month. 8398 Limited care? 08448222752 I am going to ring them up tomorrow and complain and ask for a refund. I think if I text back stop, they may not do so and still charge me £3 for sending thet text as well. Or even worse keep charging me £3 per month ??

    Txts From 83023 - Warning!

I've been a bit stupid got a txt yesterday from '83023' sending me a link to win an Iphone 4, so I put this link in the PC and received 2 txts that said they would tell me if I had won.
Upon checking my phone bill I have been charged £7.50 for these texts , just to tell others not to reply as you will be fleeced!

The only place I can think of where it came from is phones4u as I recently won a comp and gave mine and OH's number in (which he received the same txt).

Has anyone received any of these and will I keep getting spam from them?
It says its from 8398 ltd

    Thanks

the reason it's been going on so long is because your Network and 2ergo both share the money that's stolen from the customers accounts.

Contact 2ergo on their 0161 874 4222 number, which will be cheaper to call than 0844

Say you haven't subscribed and want a refund. They are just the hosting number provider, and will forward it to the actual service provider to process the refund.

If the refund doesn't happen contact Phonepayplus
  • its now 2011

the Network Operators are still thieving from their customers accounts.

while the customers continue to put up with the theft and being fobbed off with nonsense about 'third party' companies being responsible the Networks will continue to thieve.

    thieve from 100,000 customer accounts......'refund' a handful.

there isn't much point in discussing the issue if sensible pragmatic advice is going to get shot down by ill-founded and paranoid exaggerations

the networks are not thieving from their customers accounts

there is some abuse by new chancers arriving in the sector, but they get sorted out

    @Redux,

Yes you gave fair advice but it's not the whole story, is it?

Unsolicited reverse bill texts have been stealing from mobile accounts for many years. I got scammed in 2005 and it is still happening out there on a daily basis, we only see those who post on forums. What about the PAYG youngsters who have no idea why their credit is going down so quickly? There are those of us who never check their bill and there are many.

The networks can take up to 50% of the scam text money, the cowboys share what's left and don't forget the Government who now take 20% in VAT.

The Networks (except T-Mobile & Vodaphone, if you can find any mention on the VF web site or a VF c/s advisor who knows admits to know about a bar on short codes) refuse to allow you to block texts such as these. The Regulator, Phone Pay Plus are financed by the premium rate industry (Hardly independent). OFCOM whose response is that they don't deal with individual complaints. OTELO, the Ombudsman, as I was to find that even if they find in your favour they do very little. I am told that they have representatives of the networks on their board. Trading Standards are not interested. The Police, by law, cannot act unless they are asked by the Regulator which has never happened. Parliament has also refused to act to make laws that would make these scams a crime. Have you asked yourself WHY?

Why? Too much money involved and everyone is getting a cut! Remember who finances it, us the victims of these scams.

You are wrong when you accuse 'Wantmemoney's' post of being, Quote: 'Ill-founded and paranoid exaggerations' You don't need to go far to see how correct he is, search this forum. The are too many threads and post from victims, like me and him.

It's not 'abuse by the new Chancers', as you have said, many of the scams are made by the same cowboys. You only have to look at the PP+ monthly 'charge sheet' to see who has broken the rules and regulations (aka Stolen our money) in the past month. The same names appear on a regular basis. The company that scammed me is still scamming, even using the same short code nearly 6 years later.

    Sorry mate check it out.

firstly whether your advice on 'refunds' is 'sensible' or 'pragmatic' as it relates to the possible theft of monies from an account is a matter of opinion.

secondly my comment wasn't aimed specifically at you or your 'advice'. If I intended that I would have quoted you.

read up on the subject so you know what you are talking about and less of the personal comments.
    redux wrote:

customers are claiming money is being taken out of their accounts without their authorisation.
Only the Network Operators have access to those accounts.

they 'get sorted out' with regulatory 'fines' paid with revenue that the Networks and 2ergo withhold from these 'new chancers'.

Yes the 'fines' are being paid from part of the revenue that has been stolen from the victims accounts.

all of this is on the internet and can easily be verified.
  • Had 7 texts from this number last night!!!

I rang the customer service number qouted on the message and there is no answer.

Exactly, exactly the same as me except promise of postal order in 40 days - I got nothing - did you?
2 ergo were fined for this sort of thing in 2009 after action by phonepayplus.
