  • I needed to clear my debt, which I have done. Im not business minded and I wouldnt dream of cancelling my son's trust fund! If Im skint for the rest of my life it would be worth while just to have given him the best start to adult life. Thanks for the advice though.

Would you have spent all that money if you thought that you couldnt fall back on my generosity ?
What happened to the trip to Florida ?
  • Florida??!! Not following, sorry!

I would have cleared my debts no matter, I will face the consequences of my *lavish* spending and live off whats left until I can go to work

My kids don't have a trust fund because i can't afford one. The only start I can give my kids is to raise then to be responsible and caring citizens. I work and so does my husband. Perhaps the rest of us would like to buy new furniture, cars etc but realise that paying our bills is more important.

There's always the good old welfare state. Geez, this sort of thing makes me sick.

does this mean that if they say she deprived herself, she has a 6 months ban max, they cant say u had enuff to live on for 3 yrs, hence a 3 yr ban for benefits, im stating about the max 3 or 6 months bank statements proof of what went on 3 or 6 months ago.

I'm not really sure why you refer to some kind of 3 month or 6 month window of opportunity where someone can allegedly squander their capital and then after x months, the consequences of it have magically expired. Can you provide a link to this?

housing forms ask for last 3 months bank statements, thus if you had money be it 6 months , 1 yr or whatever and spent it, then surely you cant be told you had money a yr ago, you should have kept it.

eg you have savings of say £20,000, you buy a new car, £14000, you then a yr later loose your job, surely you cantbe told you shouldnt have bought that car a yr ago when you were working.
or your working and inherit money and spend it, and loose ur job a yr later. u would simply make a claim and be asked to show what wealth u had in prior 3 months in bank statements

on any housing form they all ask for you to produce 3months of bank statements.
scenario--I inherit money, i spend it, im working, 6 months later i get paid off my job, i make a claim, the form states to show current balance--low, i show recent statements, i get housing benefit.
Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

That isn't the situation here, though, is it? The OP came off Income Support because she had excess capital when her inheritance was paid, promptly spent enough of it to take her back under the capital threshold and reclaimed. She clearly knew that spending the money would re-entitle her to benefit and did so.

That's different to working, buying a car with your savings, then losing your job six months later and needing to claim. You wouldn't be spending in order to claim if you were working at the time (unless you know redundancy was looming, of course!)
