Santander Visa Debit Card

Can anyone confirm that Santander are no longer issuing embossed Visa Debit Cards with their full current accounts? This is the story Im being told by my branch that the flat printed black numbers on the front and "electronic use only" on the back is the new style and will be the ones issued from now on, it does say Visa Debit on the front but I'm convinced this is an Electron in disguise and they are fobbing me off.

Has anyone with Santander been issued one of these cards recently as a replacement to an embossed one? are Santander telling me the truth or not?

They got theirs just before Christmas, the unembossed ones are, as you say, electrons in disguise, they issue those cards when you dont meet the "criteria" for the embossed card which is a full offline card, the unembossed ones are full authorisation cards. They are trying to fob you off.

Seriously, do yourself a favour, go back to Natwest, if you dont want to, then I also recommend Halifax, have been very happy with them so far, and free £5 each month is nice! Im glad I ditched Santander when i did!

This is really odd because the underwriters upgraded my card entitlement on the system to the full Visa Debit MFC yet branch are saying the card I have is they way all full Visa Debits will be issued in future, so yea it sounds like your right and they are fobbing me off. Do you think its worth ordering a new one online now as the card type has been upgraded?

You could try it, and see what comes.

might give it a go, long as the current card stays active until it arrives!

Id be interested to know what the "criteria" is that you don't meet.

Years ago when Santander was Abbey National I applied for thier current account and was told I didn't meet the criteria for their Multifunction Card as it was then. This was a VISA Delta card with Cheque Guarantee. I was told I could have a Cash Card. Woopsy big deal.

I asked what the "criteria" for this card was and was told that they were not at liberty to reveal this.

While I was there I then closed two savings accounts and was asked for a reason why. I replied "I am not at liberty to reveal my reasons".

I would never touch Abbey/Santander with a barge pole after that.

Nope Visa Debit MFC ONLINE is only issued on the Instant Plus accounts and for those who are deemed "higher risk" on other account

I met the criteria for the Reward Account to be opened so it was my understanding that based on the outcome of that credit search and the acceptance of the application that I'd receive a Visa Debit Offline card, I don't know what other criteria I haven't met? I've never been informed that there was a problem or that I didnt qualify for the full card, I'm seriously baffled by it

Yep, just noticed today that mine (1st card, issued Sept) says electronic only on the back. Does this mean I can only use it as chip & pin (i.e. B&Ms asked me to sign to use my CC, but probably did the other bit electronically)?

PS They matched my near 2 grand overdraft, so I would guess I met their 'criteria'.
