this is my second baby, with the first the movement started at 24 weeks but wasn't ever very frequent and was really only if i was in the bath, i could never fill one of those ten kicks a day charts in but they don't use them anymore. with the second baby the movement started at 21 weeks, and only at 26 weeks can i feel it when i'm not in the bath, baby gives me a kicking every time i'm sick lol! so i won't worry too much about it, if there's a day i haven't felt anything i'll have a bath and see if he kicks :-)

sorry the triple test i referred to is the blood test for downs, etc. but i didn't have it done, i've heard it referred to as triple test but maybe that's not the right name for it!

i left a message for the midwife 2 weeks ago but she hasn't called back. i was on holiday though, then in hospital and although i meant to call yesterday (thursday is the day they're at my doctors surgery) i didn't get round to it, i was being so sick and so was my son, we fell asleep - ooops! it's annoying that i didn't get the MATB1 though, my employer is nagging me for it, i suppose i could start maternity leave (or just leave the job) but i can't get any pay without the MATB1.

    Hi jelly head
I had my third baby nine years after my second, and the midwives just assumed I wouldn't want to go to classes. I had to chase them and ask to go. A ;ot had changed and it was nice to have a refresher course, so get in touch with them. It's also nice to meet the other mums in your area who are going to be at the post baby clubs etc.
Iwas really shocked at how little care i seemed to get nine years on, but i think it's just down to low numbers of midwives and lack of money nowadays. it really got me down worrying about things during the months between the initial appointments.
In the end I got hold of a sympathetic midwife who understood my fears and just took time out to call me occasionally to reassure me. I also found that the difference in living in a Town for my last pregnancy meant that I didn't get the attention that I got when I lived in a small village for my two previous pregnancies.
t the end of the day the staff want to help you so get in touch if you feel concerned about anything.

Congratulations Julie & co on the new arrival!!

    hi foreverskint.

i saw the midwife yesterday and she did say if i'm ever worried about anything, any symptom etc. i can call the delivery suite at any time. apparently if i call them saying i have the signs of pre-eclampsia the first thing they'll do is get a midwife to come to my house and take blood pressure and a water sample, so a call to the delivery suite when i have a migraine (very similar to pre-eclampsia lol!) doesn't always mean hours in hospital and an overnight stay with me feeling like a moaning hypochondriac, etc.

she's given me details of antenatal classes too, i have to call the clinic and book them. and i finally got my MATB1 so i can leave work in 3 weeks time - yippee!

does anybody know if husbands are allowed paid time off to go to classes or midwife appointments?

Legally their is no statutory requirement for employers to provde this (daft as some of the ante-natal classes are "couples classes"), both my & my hubby's employers both offer it though so it is worth enquiring of each employer I think. Employers are only legally required to offer statutory paternity leave to dads from the day of birth onwards, most are happy to back date this to the start of labour but I do know of cases where dads have had to take the day of labour as annual leave!

my hubby will be taking the labour and any time off afterwards as annual leave, we can't afford for him to go onto paternity pay. he was panicking yesterday because he came to the midwives appointment with me yesterday and was going to be ten minutes late back to work, i had some vague idea that he was allowed time off to go to appointments with me but it's probably incorrect. ah well ... he doesn't have enough annual leave left to be taking time off for antenatal classes, he's used up a bit of his annual leave because i've been in hospital twice so he's had to look after young spud. i suppose he could just read the miriam stoppard book about labour, etc.
