I too had spotting with my second child, but she is now a stroppy seven year old.
She was even stroppy before she was born - 1 night when I was 39 weeks pregnant I had some very strong Braxton- Hicks, that stopped after a few hours and when I woke up in the morning I was sure she had turned to bottom down again. I went to see my midwife who said no that wouldn't happen, but scanned to put my mind at rest. Lo and behold she was bottom down - stroppy right from the start!Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
hi, just to say, please dont worry!i am 28 weeks pregnant today and i had spotting at 10 weeks and had a scan, which turned out to be alright and the spotting stopped a day or so later, i have had to have extra scans with this pregnancy(second one)as they are keeping a eye out for the growth i have 4th one on thursday,i am just thinking of the good side that i get to keep seeing my little baby on the screen more than normal and im quite looking forward to them.
but all i would say is do rest and get everyone around you to make you lots of drinks and take full advantage of the rest, you will need it very soon as the time just flys by in pregnancy although you dont think so at the time, so rest , rest and more rest!!appreciate what you have got x0 -
My missus had exactly this at exactly this time, then again later. We rushed off in a panic for a scan and were told it's v common. It can simply be caused by the cervix temporarily becoming more vascular (more / enlarged blood vessels). I think this is the commonest of a number of innocent possible causes.anitha wrote:stop you lot, shame on you for making a pregnant and hormonal person cry

IIRC, once it starts, it's like a nosebleed, in that it can go on quite a long time without becoming either worse or serious. If it's brownish, it means it's old blood that has taken a while to find its way out. If it's bright red, you may have a problem in that it implies significant steady bleeding. But then if it were, your doc would have sent you for an emergency scan.
It sounds like you have a "cervical nosebleed" there, that's all. Call the GP if you think it's getting heavier but otherwise try to relax.0 -
cervical nosebleed, i like that lol! i saw my GP on friday evening because i'd had spotting and he wasn't very helpful to be honest. i'd had a migraine for 5 days so i'd had blurred vision, headache and vomiting. he seemed quite cross with me for not seeing a doctor earlier but i'm sure if i made an appointment every time i had a migraine they'd call me a hypochondriac! he poked my stomach a bit and said if i hadn't come in late on a friday he'd have sent me for a scan. i have one booked for wednesday anyway so he just said to go home and call if i had any more problems. my blood pressure was up but i suppose that's the headache. i had pre-eclampsia last pregnancy so he seemed to think i should be worrying about the slightest twinge and calling the midwives every time i blow my nose. he seemed really annoyed that i hadn't felt the baby move and implied that it was somehow my fault, i'm 20 weeks and one day and he acted as if it was unheard of to not be feeling the baby move regularly but i'm sure i didn't feel anything until 23 weeks with my first baby. it took him ages to find the baby heartbeat, he really scared me because all that talk of not feeling movement made me worry that there was something wrong with the baby.
but after all of that telling off he gave me there wasn't any advice about the spotting at all. he didn't say whether or not i should go to work, if i should avoid sex (what's that? lol!). ah well, there hasn't been any further spotting so i suppose it wasn't anything to worry about but i really feel you can't win with doctors during pregnancy, they either tell you off for worrying too much or they imply you're neglectful because you don't worry enough. does anyone understand blood pressure by the way? what counts as high? is the top figure important?52% tight0 -
A migraine that went on for 5 days before you called the doctor (tut-tut- especially with your medical history!). No wonder he told you off!! (did hubby as well?).
Don't you have your midwifes phone no on your notes? I did and it said if you experience any of this things please ring. If your midwife wasn't available, you spoke to whoever was on call.
Re - baby kicking. I have posted before how i lost my first at 17 weeks and hadn't felt the baby at the point. I can't remember how many weeks before i felt my 2. I know i felt earlier with youngest but i have a feeling i got told this is cos you know what to expect.
once you do start feeling baby kick, i know i was told to count and get in touch with midwife/hospital if less than so many a day.0 -
hi,
a 5 day migraine is actually not that unusual for me, i managed to work although i was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. i get focal migraines and although they're really scary the GP thinks it's nothing to worry about and couldn't be less concerned. i've had such conflicting advice from doctors etc. - the first midwife thought i was almost certain to get pre-eclampsia again and was all doom and gloom but then the consultant she referred me to said i'm fine and i don't need to see her unless pre-ecampsia occurs again (unlikely apparently as it only happened at 39 weeks pg, not all the way through). the second midwife said it wouldn't happen until after 24 weeks anyway so i thought it was just a migraine and it was, it's gone now. the midwives are on answerphone and i had to go out and collect my boy from football practise so it was easier to call the doctor, i asked the receptionist who i should see and she said i should see the GP. ho hum ... i know it's all excuses about having to work, having a kid to pick up etc. but i honestly didn't think the migraine was anything important and i called the GP the instant i saw the spotting. when i asked a midwife about my constant nosebleeds and headaches she was really dismissive and made me feel like a whinger so i felt awkward about calling the doctor over a migraine.
when i have my scan on wednesday i'll ask the sonographer about the spotting and see if she can see a reason for it. it hasn't come back but if it does i'll call the GP straight away, he said i'm even to call if it's out of hours.
i had a kick chart with my first pregnancy but i don't think it started until 30 or more weeks, there had to be ten kicks by 6pm or you had to call and go in for monitoring. they don't do that now but i've been told to report any changes in the babys movements, e.g. if i don't feel anything when i think i should. despite getting up in the mornings etc. i never ever got ten kicks in one day, not once in the whole pregnancy. i got one kick while in the bath per day, two if i had 2 baths.
hubby is a first aider so i think he'll be quite strict about me getting checked out when i don't feel movement, but this early on i just don't feel anything. i suppose it's best to waver more towards the hypochondriac side than not calling the GP, even if i do get a GP or midwife that thinks i'm whinging.52% tight0 -
I suffered migranes early on in pregnancy. They always started on a Thursday building up until Sunday I was confined to bed. Then it would gradually taper off so by Wednesday I felt fine. GP and Midwife both said it was quite normal in early stages but to try and stay off painkillers. I seemed to develop all the normal symtons of pregnancy. Firstly extreme tiredness - so bad I fell asleep at my desk in work and I didn't even know I was pregnant!. Then came the all day sickness (for 9 months). God help me if someone came into work after eating garlic the night before - I was out the door like a flash. Then there was night cramp. Hubbie used to usefully tell me to go and stand on the cold kitchen floor, you can imagine my language . The cramp was greatly helped by calcium supplement. Then came the worse one of all - Acid Reflux. So bad after 5 months I had to sleep sitting up with 9 pillows. If I slipped down at night I would wake up gagging on the acid

jellyhead- are you going to see your consultant after your scan? If so fetch up about the migraines, kicking etc - and ask when you should ring.If your midwife isn't available, what about ringing the maternity hospital direct.0
