im going to give goggles4u a try. are there any d&a free vouchers for eyetests around?.0

Go for it, I have only just found them in the last few months and have had no problems. I was very unsure about using an online site to buy specs from and I went with the idea that if I lost £12 glasses then it's better than paying £100+ and then not to be right.
It really is worth giving it a try, you have nothing to lose (well nothing more than £12)

After reading about all the cheap specs here on the site Ive stumbled upon this site
https://www.goggles4u.com
They have bendy frames complete with lenses including delivery for a whopping £12.50 !!
Is this too good to be true ? Has anyone used them ?
Update....Just found a whole bundle of postings for this site on here now.....I might give them a miss.....0 -
21 days and still waiting for my order!!!
Anyone else waited this long? Have already emailed them again!
:wall:0 -
I found emailing useless, if you wait till after 9-10 at night they do a live chat session.
The parcels are sent recorded delivery so they are trackable, however they are sent in a cloth bag which to me looks like a big brick of drugs !!! I think they get delayed with customs having a big debate over them

I wanted to order but I can't decide between the glass lenses or the cr39- whats the difference?July Win: Nokia 58000

Glass lens is just that, made of glass so will be much heavier BUT depending on prescription can be thinner (this is only really a benefit on higher prescriptions) It also resists scratches well but if dropped will shatter.
CR39 is a standard thickness plastic so is what most people receive from the high street opticians. It can scratch more easily than glass, but is normally around half the weight.
(However, In the two pairs that I ordered I didnt receive standard plastic but a thinner option.)
Did you want them to darken in sunlight or anything ??

thank you for your quick response! I have very weak eyes -8 and -7.5, so I was confused at to what I should get. I'm not sure I should choose the darkening ones- what do you suggest?July Win: Nokia 58000

your prescription is fairly high, and if you were buying in a high street shop you would be told/advised a 1.6 or high index lens at least,
Personally I hate glass and can see no real reason why anyone would buy it, it really does make the specs heavy ! As for ones that darken in the sun I would suggest these as a spare pair only, they have their limitations and i found they stayed too dark indoors (again its personal choice though)
Try this site https://www.spectaclecase.co.uk as they offer 1.6 as standard, which will make your lenses thinner and includes an anti-reflective coating which guts down on glare so good for driving and PC use. (i havent ordered from them myself so not sure on customer service, but they are UK based)
Goggles4u can be hit or miss and out of 3 pairs ordered 1 had the wrong prescription but the quality was great (my lenses equate to about half the thickness of yours-roughly) and as i said before the material used was high index although I didnt pay extra for it !
For frame choice the smaller the better with your prescription and oval if you can as this will make your lenses as thin as possible.
Good luck, feel free to PM if you want, im not an optician but I have manufactured specs and sold them for a number of years and if i can advise you i will !!

I would urge people not to be tempted to buy glasses from gogglesforyou
my friend ordered from them bifocals coloured lenses strengthened lens etc etc. After waiting a month still no glasses, he contacted them and the reply was they were in the post, finally yesterday we received SOME glasses!
They were very well parcelled up but to his astonishment when opening the case 1. BOTH lenses were broken off from the frame 2. they were single lensed! 3 they were LADIES glasses, in total a total disaster. He has lost over a £100......... BUYER beware! Its back to Specsavers! When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0
