I assume I it's secure, because if you opt to pay by Paypal, it redirects you to the Paypal site.

I've used them for about two years now and buy about 4-5 pairs each year.

It is a secure site. Top tip, if you right click on the screen and go to properties it will tell you if the page is secured or not (SSL encryption, etc). Never had any credit card fraud either.

The products themselves are a little hit and miss in terms of overall quality (ie, they are not designer frames and whilst all my pairs have lasted so far, they aren't as 'solid' as the UK stuff - but then they cost £100 upwards). I've never had a problem with the lenses or fit and have had tints, reactolite and ordinary lenses before. It is essential to get your prescription right and especially the PD, this is the most important bit.

But the glasses are like £13 and are great for a spare pair/gardening work and as Sarahg1969 states, for that money it's worth a punt.

  • Thanks both of you for your replies.
    What is PD?
Did u think the tint or the reactor lense was better for using as sun glasses? as i,ve never had prescription sunglasses before but at that price i thought i'd try a pair.
    Thanks

    PD stands for Pupilary Distance.

At an opticians, it is when the girl puts a ruler across your forehead to measure the distance between your eyes. It is absolutely essential this is correct or else you'll get big headaches, quickly.

Your optician may have put it on your current prescription, if not, go back and ask them for it. You cannot order glasses without this figure. It will be a two digit number like 66 or 82, etc.

Full tint (sunglasses) are better than the reactolite ones. For starters, the reactolites don't work when you're driving as your windscreen usually filters out the exact same light needed to activate your lenses!. Also, they have a tint range from 0% (clear) to around 30%-50% so you are not going to get total 'darkness' so to speak.

Sunglasses have a permant tint, the % of which you can specify (ie, go for 100%) and also the color of the tint. This will enable you to get the darkest possible tint - I guess it comes down to how much sun you want to block out and how the tint matches the frame (ie, if you have a white frame and a dark tint it will look silly, if you have a brown frame and a brown tint of about 85% intesity it'll look better - but it's all personal choice to be honest).

Best thing for you is that for the price you can afford to get it wrong.

  • Is it possible to find out what sort of prescriptions you guys have. Are they weak or strong prescriptions? I have quite a strong prescription with cylinder and axis too so don't know if I should use goggles4u. Do they actually use thinner lenses as I heard some people say that theirs look like the bottoms of milk bottles
  • I had a pair of glasses with photo chromatic lenses from them. I was quite happy with them until one day when I was standing in the queue at Kwik-Save the frame just decided to snap open and the left hand lens fell to the floor (anyone know of a company that will provide frames for a pair of lenses). So I guessed my way back home, found my old pair and looked on the web site to see what the terms of the guarantee were. Basically there wasn’t any. I emailed the site and was offered a 15% discount which is what I would have got anyway as a repeat customer.
  • if you pay £300 at vision express you get a guarantee for 12 months.

if you pay £12.50 you do not get a guarantee for 12 months.

it would pee me off if faulty but i would rather save a few hundred pounds.

how do you know the order goes to USA? who in the USA?

I suggest you use https://www.opticals4less.com to be honest. They are more expensive but provide higher quality frames and lenses. My Dad uses varifocals and usually pays upwards of £350 for them from his local optician.

This website did them for £100 - so expensive compared to goggles4u but a much better bet as you can select from about 6 different types of lenses (from bottle top to wafer thin), depending upon how much you want to pay.

I've used them before too with no problems, but there cheapest glasses are £25 against goggles4u's £12 - I'm short sighted by the way (too much time on these damn forums).

My Px is -9.25 in both eyes with axis & cyl. The lenses Goggles4u provided were thinner than standard, but still much thicker than my uber-expensive Zeiss ones. I didn't think it mattered too much as they were dark sunglasses and I wouldn't be wearing them too often, but in any case they are unwearable for the reason stated in my previous post :(

The zeiss lenses are probably the best in the world, but they are expensive!.

If you can, get those and pay extra, if you're short of cash, then other forumites have an alternative choice.
