How did you go about getting them to do a price match? Ive seen a lot of Tv's cheaper at internet retailers and at other stores and want them to do the same mainly so that i can get the 5yr guarantee.

    Thanks in advance

I've just bought the 40" Bravia kdl40w2000 W series (What HiFi? product of the year) for £1625 from John Lewis with their free 5 year guarantee. It's truly amazing.
That IS amazing because I emailed them at the weekend and said I wanted to buy the same TV and they told me they DON'T price match direct sellers, so go away (although they said it politely).

Anyone looking for cheap TVs should start at www.best-tv-prices.co.uk which is where many people find big discount codes. (But unfortunately they have no deals on this Sony Bravia one.)

Funnily enough I bought from the Liverpool store who price matched Empire Direct at a total of £1643.99 (£1618.99 + Empires £25 delivery charge). A day or two after we had bought it John Lewis' Cheadle branch sent us a letter saying they would price match Empire Direct at £1618.99 (no mention of including the Empire delivery charge) so we mentioned this to the Liverpool store and they refunded us £25!! I can't stress enough - THIS TV IS FANTASTIC. It's worth taking advantage of their combined package with the Sony DVD/HDD recorder for just an additional £199 - saving £200 on this unit. If you don't need it because you have Sky+ then see if any family or friends may like it for this price. This is also a fabulous machine. I have to add my mother and the inlaws have since taken advantage of this deal!

(Note: I had stated £1625 in previous posts - the actual price was £1618.99)

    Let's get this straight!

They DO NOT pricematch internet sites. They DO price match 'bricks and mortar' stores of which Empire Direct is one i.e. they have a retail outlet that you can go to and may buy, in person, at a physical counter, where they put money into a physical till, an item including a Sony Bravia W series 40" LCD TV with all the whistles and bells. It therfore sounds like the person/people you have been speaking to have (i) lost the plot or (ii) don't want to be helpful. In my case both stores went away and did the check. I think you need to ring the store and speak to someone. They must employ an office department to make these check up calls.

I have the offer in writing from the Cheadle store. Any hassles let me know. You will get your TV for £1618.99!! It is my mission.

I am looking for a cheapish 50 inch LCD (plasma seems to have issues with burn outs when connecting to computer via S-VIDEO OUT). So basically I am looking for the cheapest price.
