Is value pasta OK?

It's MArtin's rule again - only go down one brand at a time...
so if you normally use fresh pasta, go to premium dried.
If you normally use premium dried go to supermarket own brand
If you use supermarker own brand, try their basic value range.
but don't expect to jump from fresh pasta to basic stuff and not notice the difference.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

someone said something about cheap pasta sticking together. If you put a tiny splash or some sort of cooking oil into the water when cooking the pasta then it wont stick together. Also if you rinse the pasta under cold running water before cooking it then it will reduce the amount of starch on the pasta and this will also stop it sticking together0

I've always bought the Basics/Value/Smartprice etc pasta, and never had a problem with it :-) it's come down to 20p for a 500g bag in Sainsburys now, stocked up the other day when I was in there and it tastes good - I've had some of the one that comes in a black bag and begins with an N (can't remember the brand name sorry) which is normally around £1.20 a bag, had that when it was half price once and tbh couldn't really tell the difference, especially once it's cooked and mixed in with things. Also use the cheap ones in salad, fine then too!Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

I don't buy any other brand than Basics Pasta. We really like it.
Only time I buy fresh pasta is when I want the garlic and herbI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Can’t stand Basics penne! Revolting stodge not worthy of the name pasta.
I can’t help thinking it’s a false economy anyway because you do have to cook it about 4 times as long and smother it in sauce (and the texture’s still all wrong) when the fresh pasta’s usually discounted to £1 and tastes good with cheaper ingredients- just a bit of oil and chilli or garlic or leftover veg. And then you can often get your £1 back because it’s on the Try Me deal.
Haven’t tried the spaghetti though – might give it a go.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
