Lidl's pasta is actually quite good. It's cheap and it tastes fine.

  • I use Asda Smartprice dried pasta, 20p a bag at the moment sure it's for 500g as well, used to be 37p. It's fine, I normally have a sauce in it anyway but have used it in pasta salads etc and it doesn't really taste any different from any others I have tried.

I don't like Tesco's value pasta myself, but then I'm picky about it. It seemed a little chewier and stickier than others that I've tried. I tend to stock up on my favourite stuff when it's half price instead. Lidl pasta was good though, as someone else has said. :)

Do you know how much Lidl's pasta is? I need to make a trip there on Monday so might try some.

I think I'm going to order a couple of bags of basics pasta as well as some of the usual own brand penne, if I don't like the basics I can mix it with the normal stuff but if it's ok then I'll switch for next month properly.

  • When my budget was tighter than a tight thing in tights; I was so skint I was given a hooooge bag of value pasta [twirls] by a very lovely colleague.

It was fine, and kept me fed for weeks.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Value pasta is a different product from the brands like dececco

The brands are usually 100 % durum wheat , in Italy its illegal to sell dried pasta that is not 100 % durum wheat

Value pasta , is a combination of other cheaper wheat , like buckwheat and they also add dye to it.

Personally I think it boils down to what sauce you have made, if you have gone to the trouble of making a good one, then there is not really a point in ruining it with cheap pasta , but if you are just chucking a £1 jar of something onto pasta for a quick meal then I guess the cheap will be fine.

I think it just the same with all value lines...try it and see if you like it...if you do then all well and good-if you don't then don't buy it again. It's just personal taste

That's interesting and I've now looked at the ingredients and Sains Basics pasta is 100% Durum wheat whereas Tesco Value is durum wheat and semolina. However Sains Penne which we normally buy has semolina as well....

Got to be worth a try, will stick the order in over the weekend.
