Getting married...with no guests

If my kids went off and got married in secret then I'd be happy for them and quietly satisfied that I had raised confident and independent kids or else I was a control freak who wanted to interfere in everything and they had ran away from my meddling !
Their wedding, up to them. Nothing to do with anyone else.0 -
Well speaking as someone who let her bossy mother in law change almost everything I wanted for my wedding, including the day!!! I would say stick to your guns and do it your way. I was young and didn't want to cause a fuss or scene and MIL is very very overbearing and bossy. If I could go back in time I would definitely do things the way I wanted.
I will celebrate 31 years of marriage this year and it still makes me sad and angry that I gave in to MIL, especially as to changing the day. I wanted to get married on my birthday which was a weekday and she refused to take a day off work (no she did not have a responsible job) so we changed it to the nearest Saturday. Every year on my birthday I think "this should be my anniversary too".The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

And there is the crux of it, still rankling after decades. You have only one chance to do what you want so stuff the rellies as the Aussies put it and just get on with your own thing. If they have a problem with it, then that is exactly it, their problem, not yours.0 -
Do it the way you want and let the selfish, childish, self-centred people sulk. They would probably find something else to whinge about even if you had a big wedding to please them. It's great to be ALIVE!0
