    That's ironic :p

Can I ask a question? Where would the money come from to provide labour with the ability to cut less?

Presumably the same place that the rest comes from :)

  • Don't know if this is true or not - after all it is from The Daily Mail, but apparently Ed Balls mugged up (I use this phrase advisedly) for his Shadow Home Secretary role by reading crime novels.

I'm just not seeing an adequate, let alone, great shadow government with this lot. Which is not good for the Country.

In the same way some people aren't seeing an adequate, let alone a great government with this lot.

Opposition in the scheme of things means s0d all - it doesn't matter what they do or say it will make no difference to the government of the country. They can be poor opposition - the Conservatives weren't a great opposition either.

And don't forget there was no real opposition until the back end of September as there was no leader of the opposition, or any shadow ministers.

At the risk of repeating, cuts or no cuts we will still be borrowing more money, no suppose about it.

But the cuts will start towards reducing borrowing, without cuts the defecit and the debt will just keep on increasing. It is unsustainable in the medium or long term. Can you not see that?

No they won't, they may enable a smaller increase, can't you see that?

Probably true, but it needs to be sorted and the cuts are a start. Just going on like before is not an option.

What is it that ministers say when asked a question like that? Oh yes "I cannot comment on individual cases."

"You might well think that; I couldn't possibly comment"

You realise the univerisities will be getting the same amount of money, and because its in loans they will all be paid by the government up front anyway.

Thats not a funding cut to universities in any way shape or form.
How much money is being withdrawn in funding and how much money will be expected to be funded by students, for each university?

Agree. My pretty much only public sector anecdote is that when a boss of mine became a non-exec director of a local NHS trust, she was overlooking a contract which had been drawn up and was all set to go ahead. She noticed that the Company would have been able to charge for the work whether or not any work was done. So even if the job were cancelled, the Trust would have had to fork out £500,000.

She was astonished at this lack of basic business sense.
But not at her employer's apparent fleecing of the taxpayer?
