I've reported both of your posts as abuse.

I don't know if it will do any good, but personally I do find it offensive.

Nothing I have said here has been offensive to anyone else, or in any other way trolling. I have simply disagreed with a large majority of opinions.

I understand that it is a public forum, but I don't think that people calling me a moron, idiot or troll is reasonable, simply because I have disagreed with them.

Old Tug, you are right. You are not a troll, simply because you have a different opinion to the little gang of landlords and landlord apologists on here.

I have reported the previous 2 posts as well.

    I agree.

There are a number of other nasty, childish posts on this thread aimed at the OP, who has done well not to get dragged down to their level.

Whether or not the OP is right to fix her TV to the wall, there is no justification for the abusive and bullying posts on here.

My take on it is that as long as the tenant understands it is their responsibility to restore the house to its original condition on leaving, and makes sure this happens, there is not much the LL can do. If this doesn't happen, well that's what deposits are for, right?

The OP is not right that is the issue.

It it not about restoring the property it is about not causing any damage in the first place.

For some reason she cannot understand that.

She may have learning difficulties I don't know but if not it is just a combination of stupidity and trolling.

my tv was wall mounted at my parents place, i kept the wall brackets in, they were a pain to put up and a pain to remove (and an even bigger pain to remove the tv and replace it when it broke in warranty)

if its a good tv it will be stable in its stand, my lg wobbles a bit when i am putting leads in or taking them out but it is securely in place, it needs to be able to be removed from the stand
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?

Old Tug, you have said that
    1. you are only going to be there 6 - 8 months
    2. You will get it professionally done
    3. You will get it professionally corrected when you leave.
Have you had a quote for how much 2 and 3 costs? And how much is your deposit? Is your deposit greater than 3? Bearing in mind if you do this, the wall will need replastering (NOT POLYFILLER) and then the ENTIRE ROOM repainting, it wouldnt surprise me if it approaches the same amount as your deposit to correct professionally.

Clauses like that in an AST are typically for things such as a picture frame hook - asking your landlord if you can put a couple up throughout the house typically isnt a big deal. Asking the LL if you can put 8 up all on the same wall and he'll probably object.

The landlord owns the walls which you live inside and the floor, the ceiling, the windows. He doesnt want huge holes drilled into them and he probably doesnt trust you to completely restore it to exactly how it was when you moved in. This is not his problem - its yours. If this is such a big deal to you, why didnt you mention it to the LL prior to you signing. You contract doesnt say premission will be given regardless. Respect his decision and move on like an adult instead of behaving like a teenager.

OP: do as the landlord says or move. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's a telly. Get a decent floor stand for it that is sturdy and one that you can use as storage space as well.

A TV wall bracket is a major 'wound' to the wall. It's not putting a small hook on the wall for a picture is it? Firstly you have the 4-8 screws to consider and then there's the indentation that will be caused by the wall bracket and, finally, there's the matter of fixing the damage afterwards. It'll be a complete repaint of the wall to do it properly and the shade may not match the other walls.

A small nail for a picture frame requires minimal filling and painting and could be left behind as it's something other people may use. A TV bracket may or may not get reused.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!

I don't have any concerns on the reference front.

    You should.

It seems that you are suggesting that I should allow the landlord to get out of his contractual obligations, just because he could pressurize me with the threat of a bad reference.

Ah, you didn't mention that there is a specific clause in your contract stating that the tenant is allowed to drill holes into the wall in order to afix a TV to it. In that case, simply highlight the clause on the contract, send it to your landlord and await his permission. He must have entirely forgotten that he put that clause into his contract.

Shall not be unreasonably with-held part allows for Ts to put normal pictures on the wall, not TVs. If LL gave his permission for you to put TV up and later find that his walls will not support the TV then he can be liable for any injuries to you, your family, your visitors, his workers attending the property.

I have relaxed LLs. They are happy for me to make this my home as they know I have taste! lol They have though asked that I not wallpaper but just paint as damage to wallpaper requires whole redecoration whereas paint just requires a couple of hours work. I would prefer to wallpaper but the answer was no. I asked if I could look after a friend's rottweiler and the answer was yes. It's give and take but most importantly respect.

Like I said though the will not be unreasonably with-held part is to allow pictures to be put up and not TVs which can be very heavy. Same can be said about those massive mantel mirrors too, I wouldn't expect a LL to allow that either.

I want to update to a thin telly when I come to redecorate the living room. Thanks for links to those cantilever stands (whoever that was) had been wondering what to do.

When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.
