Worked for me. My Swiftcover renewal was £278 and the cheapest by a long shot. (Still a 22% increase on last year though!) FD quoted £250. Rang Swiftcover to see if it would match but they put it up to £290 instead! Cancelled and went back to FD and took out their policy. All over in 10 mins.
(Still expensive as I've never made a claim in 40 years of motoring!

worked well for me!
My best quote from all the sites was my renewel quote from Swiftcover!!
First Direct have save me £30.0 -
Worked for me. Having tried every comparison site out there the cheapeast quote I had was £206 so thought I would give this a go. Came back with £185 so very pleased.
Lets hope the service I receive should I need it is just as good. It also gives you a unique code for 15% off another car if you insure through them. Thanks Martin!!0 -

So was your renewal quote (the price quoted to you by your present insurer inviting you to renew) the £206?
If not, I don't think FD will honour the quote under this offer as they will want to see the renewal offer sent to you."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Then I read what had been written about the actual insurers and I thought ugh. Rang Endsleigh (backed by my union, but I've never made a claim so no real idea how good they are) and they gave me a better price. So yes it did work but in a different way. Thanks for all the top tips MSE
Did you check what was written about Endsleigh car insurance?
http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews10932.html
One thing I did find in the small print of Endsleigh car insurance was that windscreen repairs (as opposed to replacement) were also subject to a £15 excess charge. Most other insurers do not charge any excess for windscreen repairs.

It didn't work for me either. My renewal premium is £242 with Aviva but it will only quote for me if I put in at least £248.
On a slighly separate note, my quotations appear to have significantly increased this year over previous years. Using all the comparison sites etc as per Martin's guide, I'm only finding 3 companies with prices under £300 and cashback also seems to have reduced. The best I've found currently appears to be Aviva (approx £70 depending on the site you use) but I'm already with them so unfortunately can't renew that way!0 -
My car insurance was £563 with Aviva, but when my renewal came through it was for £687 despite never claiming or having any driving penalties.
I followed the tips on this site but the best I could do was get quotes for around the £580 mark. However, I went back onto the Aviva site to get a quote as a new customer, and the quote I got was £487 - £200 cheaper than the tandard renewal! I then added courtesy car which I didn't have before and this took the actual policy taken up to £504 but still a saving of £183.
Best of all, when I phone Aviva to discuss it they said it was all perfectly fine to get a new policy online and transfer over my no claims bonus. That was a month ago and everything has been fine since and all certificates etc have been processed including transferring the no claims onto the new policy.0 -
Don't know if I got this right but I've just looked at First Direct online service to compare them with my other quotes, typed my renewal quote and it has returned 10%, once I tried to fiddle much about criteria it appeared to be more compare to my renewal. Guess, If I would call them they perhaps would match the quote and return 10%. what I did instead I phone my recent insurer, told them about that offer and they match first direct 10% offer and knocked down further 10%
so happy after all. keep good cover with reputable insurer still best price on the market and my partner not loosing hardly earned NCD.

I have just tried to get a quote from First Direct to see if they would quote me a figure 10% lower than my present renewal, as they guarantee. I provided all my details and they declined to quote even though I have an excellent driving record with a low value car.. So much for their guarantee! False advertising I believe!0

After we had filled in the usual dozen or so pages of information, they said they couldn't provide the insurance. We have a long NCD and quite a modest current cost of around £230 per annum.
Perhaps our record is too good?
