Lots of thoughts on here. Good and bad. Bad winning on points.

I have Orange and Voda. Voda has better reception in most places. Not had to deal with their CS yet.

I've been with VF for 7 years now and can honestly say I've never had a problem with the service I've recieved. Only had one issue with an error on my bill, but they sorted it within a couple of days. Only downside is I can't get a decent signal in my living room, but it's excellent everywhere else in the house for some reason!

Been with Vodafone off and on for the past 10 years or so. I've found their CS to be fine and very helpful when problems have occurred.

Network coverage is fine as I'm travelling the UK, though I can only get Edge where I live but have Wi-Fi so it's not a problem.

    The good:

Network coverage and reliability is pretty good. I certainly have far fewer dropped calls and sim errors than with orange.

    It's fairly cheap.

If you have a complaint, and if you have the stamina to actually get through to someone with any authority, they usually give you a decent credit.

The web forum team are quite helpful.

    The bad:

Customer service is poor. And if you have a serious problem, unbearably frustrating. Emails go off to India and take 48 hours for a reply. A reply that invariably totally fails to address your problem. Some of the responses would be comical if they weren't such a waste of your time.

The call centres are spread between egypt, northern ireland and somewhere in england. Unless you have a very simple query I wouldn't bother. Everyone you speak to tells you something different. Never assume you have been put on a certain package without seeing it in writing.

Which brings me on to the next point.

Getting anything in writing is next to impossible. People will promise that you can, but you can't, not really, they just want you to go away.

You can use your web account, you can then familiarise yourself with log on errors, sql conflicts, broken pages and many many emails to india.

Oh they may just dump branding on your phone or change your contract without telling you anyway.

No trouble at all with Vodaphone I get a good signal most places better than most of the others, although if you are looking at Pay as you go. Then consider Asda 8p calls, I believe they use the Vodaphone network, as the card works in my Vodaphone mobile.

I've had no issues with the signal and coverage on Voda, but the customer service is frankly absolutely abysmal. Even getting a confirmation in writing means nothing - I've had stuff (eventually) confirmed by email, only to be told 24h later that they had "made a mistake" and couldn't do what they had confirmed (and that's from the Web team rather than the call centre). The website account management is a disaster zone - there's always something not working on there so downloading bills turns into some kind of major exercise in patience (if you manage to log on that is)
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

Thanks Heidi, but theres not much more to say, I was miss-sold, had a long road getting a complaint recognised, was offered some compensation and took it as by that point I had had enough.

While I acknowledge that the web team and directors office did help in the end that doesnt mean I would recommend others to use Vodafone.

If you want people not to complain, then stop 191 staff blatantly misadvising customers, and if you give someone a contract then honour that contract for its duration, and dont junk peoples phone with unwanted branding that requires a huge press campaign to get reversed, its as simple as that.

Totally agree! Try using virtual networks (Talkmobile/ASDA) that piggy back on the VF network.

That way you are benefitting from VF's excellent coverage and network at a fraction of the cost of doing directly to VF.

I use ASDA, my m8 uses VF, my calls are 66% cheaper than his and yet we both use the same transmitter to route the calls.
