LOL - I am a list freak too! Excel spreadsheet for everything! Started a list for wedding in 2009 after we got engaged and then left it for ages until now, now that we have a date!

Have a list for each thing and then the budget for it, and then the actual cost for it etc to see where we will over spend or underspend and what we will def have to have, or what we dont actually need. All very technical! LOL

I love purple too, and for the time of year, back end of September, I think its a good choice. Im going to wait and see what the BMs suit first, which Ive read on another thread that some ppl do. If they look nice in Purple it will be that, if not, then will have them trying random colours! I quite like burgandy too, we shall see.

Speakin of BMs, I didnt really want any except my sis and her daughter, my neice who will be 6. But think it may look odd, and have thought of having my OHs 2 sisters and his neice who will be 2. So 3 adults and 2 lil ones. (I decided not to have friends to avoid fallings out!) But then the added 3 BMs would just cost even more money that we cant afford :(

I was a BM for a friend a couple of years ago and she asked that we buy our own dress and shoes, which I felt was unfair as the dresses were not something id wear again, and the shoes were nice, from NEXT but again, not something ive worn again. I think my friend realised that her BMs werent that happy, and decided to buy the dresses herself, and we bought the shoes. the dresses were really nice from Debs and she got a bargain at £30 each! Resold them on ebay.

What are you guys doing? Im just thinking, its our day, its the colours we want, so shouldnt we pay?

    bubbles - ;) we kwym
  • lol i have various lists for that too!!
pen, paper and calculator hasnt been far from me the past week ha ha

Yeah I heard for September you go for autumn colours and burnt orange and brown is a popular choice (to go with fall leaves, pumpkins etc)
    bet it looks lovely :)

i have a problem with the bridesmaids too, i only wanted 2 (but from my side of the family-and feel bad not asking OH's sisters to make it 4) but people have said its the brides choice and she has to feel comfortable with her maids....and i dont see his sisters all that much.

Im planning on paying for the bridesmaids dresses (but just getting some nice purple dresses from a high street shop...once u hand them a bouquet its instantly transformed into a bridesmaids dress! LOL) and will probably pay for the shoes. only have a budget of £40 a pair though. THOUGH in saying that im hoping for the men to pay for their own suit hire (i was originally planning on paying for them - and also included them in our budget, but my mum has said they should pay for their own as they did at my bros wedding and she has sounded out to a few of the males and they are fine with it.)

  • Nutty mummy - Im doing exactly the same with bridesmaid dresses hope my gals make a high street dress look designer!! proper bridesmaid dresses cost a bomb!!

White_sapphire - Going to book a package with a tour operator but poppig out there before we go to get idea of flowers and cars etc!!

Quick question everyone I was genuinely SHOCKED at the cost of wedding dresses maybe I was just niave!!
What sort of price have other people budgeted for this?
    xx
  • im probably as naive as you jemmaali, i ahve never stepped foot into a wedding dress shop n have no idea about prices....but my budget is £500....theres one on BHS website for that price which i can use as a backup if the others are too expensive LOL

yeah highstreet dresses are get posher n posher and anything passes as 'formal wear' these days so im hoping to get away with it :) x

Mee!!!! Nothing booked yet, but we want to get married in Sept next year!

    Welcome and congratulations donnap!!

jemmaali, I haven't decided on my dress budget yet - it's having to wait until we have sorted out the budget for more important things like food, photographer, travel and accomodation etc. I'm making my own dress (link to the pattern earlier in this thread if you want a sneak peek ;)) so will just have to budget for fabric, decorative bits like beads, and little essential things like thread and a zip. Silk by the metre is insanely priced (easily £20+ per metre) and I'd need probably around five metres. I've got this fantasy that I find an oyster silk dressing gown (because they have the fewest seams and the largest amount of fabric) in a large size on ebay for a bargainous price which I can take apart! Here's hoping...

natc, we have an excel spreadsheet too, currently entitled 'Argh!'. It doesn't even have everything on it yet and we're already over budget  Some rethinks needed methinks!
:heart::heart: Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012 :heart::heart:

nuttymummy - yes, i will be paying for the dresses too, however many BMs decide to have, and probably their shoes too...eek! There is still the option to elope, which im seriously considering!!! :D

White_Sapphire - everything is sooooo over priced for weddings, its ridiculous, i think our budgets are reasonaable, if the hire car wasnt for a wedding, if the venue wasnt for a wedding, if dresses were just "dress up" dresses, it wouldnt cost half as much! LOL

jemmaali - My dress budget is £500 also. I did go for £300 initially, but had a look in some wedding dress shops and they are so mush more than you think arent they! So upped my budget to £500, but would love to find the perfect dress in the sale for £350 tops! Anyone know when the ssales at these shops occur?
  • white sapphire, thats a good idea, i reckon youd be able to find one....especially with all those sorts of things coming from China for cheap!! good luck on the hunt!

I cant do spreadsheets LOL wouldnt know where to start!

you dont realise once you start adding up how much things cost!! for example i didnt know registrars were so expensive (mine is around £370), plus I have to put a coach on for all the guests and all the quotes i have to far are around £500....takes up a huge part of your budget for just two items!

We had a rethink on things too...so decided to get married on the Sunday as it was around £550 cheaper, we opted out of the meal and went for afternoon (as we are getting married at 2pm so people will have already had dinner), decided to cut the scones and jam out saving us around £100-£200 and im hoping to make cupcakes to take instead.
But all depends on how other budgets go, if we manage to get things cheaper than expected I might put some scones back in :)

So what have u all got booked and paid for already?

I have paid the deposit for venue, and registrar,
Just bought a pair of giraffe and elephant cufflinks from ebay to see what they are like, and if they are ok, will buy the rest :)
also going shopping Saturday so going to nip to wilkinsons and get all the coloured tealights (for those of you going for deep purple and want tealights..try there, they seem to be really dark purple on the internet, but ill let you know when i go!)
Ive booked the make-up artist but dont pay her till the 'trial' which wont be till july next year!
Im currently sorting out a date to meet the photographer too, and if all is well will pay her deposit (roughly £500 deposit).
so far with those items mentioned above ive already paid approx £1150 lol

Cant wait to hear everyone elses plans! i get so excited LOL
