    Presumably malwarebytes didn't find anything?

If you don't use any of these, tick and fix them using hijackthis

even if you do need them in future, they will download again. (hijackthis works the opposite way around to autoruns, you have to tick ones to be removed).

Could you post a fresh hijackthis log after uninstalling messenger plus.

    How is it running now?

If it's ok, and you have an external disk, consider backing up with something like this, then if you have a problem in future, you can restore the whole system working with data in 10 minutes or so.

    http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

When you install things (printers/cameras/software), keep an eye on the startup items (use hijackthis/autoruns/ccleaner) that sometimes get created, they make the commit charge creep up, and when that exceeds installed ram, that's what makes things go slow.

in quarantine, or removed (should be the latter)

what's the office problem? Do you have the discs? Detect and repair might work unless it is an installer problem

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821593

    Still got this

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKDetectorExe] C:\Program Files\McAfee\SpamKiller\MSKDetct.exe /uninstall

Are there any files in the spamkiller directory?

google update service still running too
    !!
    > . !!!! ----> .
  • Files deleted from quarantine

Thankfully now up and running with Microsoft Office.

Think Spamkiller now removed, google updater not in add/remove programmes and can't delete/fix in hijackthis

uninstall browser address error redirector in control panel.

start, run, services.msc and disable googleupdate service.

tick and fix this using hijackthis

    O3 - Toolbar: Orange - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-A1FB-F862B587B57D} - (no file)

Not sure if you did the cleanmem bit

in windows explorer, go to c:\windows\tasks, click on the clean system memory task, schedule, advanced, and change it from every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, then ok, ok

find the mini_monitor under c:\program files\cleanmem, run it, and click on the icon created near the clock, set it to run at startup

that should be about it, assuming it's running ok now?

if you don't use dell media experience or sonic drive letter access (for dragging/dropping data to dvd's), then you could disable these at startup, and run manually if you need them, but it's not an essential tweak

  • Sorry for delay been busy with other things.
Not sure where to find -
uninstall browser address error redirector in control panel.

    Everything else done.

CleanMem Mini Monitor varies greatly although often in the red, is this normal?

Managed to install and register Microsoft Office 2007 discs but wont allow updates, I just get a message saying updates failed. I have tried to install individually but makes no difference.
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB972581)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB2345043)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB2344875)
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 System (KB2289158)

Also my outlook messages are being received but I'm getting error message 80040900 (server name cannot be found)!

Dont want to give up now everything is organised and start up is much better and quicker.

    Thank you

updates for office aren't essential, if you look in the windowsupdate.log it may give you a clue.

outlook, check your pop3/smtp server settings, there is usually a guide on your isp's website.

red means you are near to your ram limit, it will still work if it hits that limit, but may be a little slower due to pageing. Are you running many things when it goes red - tasklist will tell you how much ram each application is using

    post a fresh hijackthis log.

Updates turned off, outlook sorted (one e-mail address not working so deleted)

Currently only have 2 tabs open and mini monitor at yellow 67. I dont normally have much more than this going on at any one time.

Thank you very much for all the help you have given me.

Is it running ok now, ie fast, or does it go slow sometimes?

If you haven't backed up, now might be a good time.
