You do have options as axa isnt the only option to you and you could sell the car and go for something cheaper for insurance, its your choice though,

insurance costs have gone up for everyone so they are hardly robbing you
  • heres some info on why the grouping has changed for vehicles, http://www.thatcham.org/research/index.jsp?page=33

Insurance group is not a guarantee that the quote will be cheaper. When they changed to
the 20 group system from 9 groups? My group 16 V6 rover 800 was cheaper to insure than a
group 13 Ford XR3, Even though my car was bigger, faster etc.

But the Ford was more likely to be stolen.

It's always worth getting an online quote with your existing insurer, but on the basis that you're a new customer rather than renewing. Then ring them up and ask them to match it. It worked for me 2 years running with D Line.

Last year DL wouldnt budge on the quote, Not interested when i complained it was £178 dearer
than the previous year and over £100 dearer than the comparison sites.

The year before they almost begged me to stay saying i was a good loyal customer, And dropped the
    price several times.

    How times change eh.

  • My old postcode to new postcode would have seen my insurance change from £1700 to £500 !

Hi, I have two cars, my main car is a 2.2 dci diesel and a runaround which is a 1.3 litre petrol. I change insurance every year and this year got both cars covered for £400 total with Admiral and £45 cashback by going through Quidco.I am the sole driver on both cars and never bother with protected NCB. In past years I always used comparison sites but I now find I get the best prices by going to each insurer to get online quotes. It may take a lot longer entering details on individual sites but I find the extra time taken worth it financially.

I have similar setup - 2 cars but in joint names - mines a 2.2 diesel and OH has 1.2 petrol. Cost to insure both cars (separately) was £360 and I got £60 and £67 cashback for a total outlay of £233 protected NCD. Definitely worth shopping around as renewal for OH's car was £212 and I got it for £100 net :D.
I use comparison websites which were a bit cheaper but then went direct and got it even cheaper - spend a bit of time and shop around. Cashback helps too :)
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat :D

i have a 52 plate vauxhall astra 1.6 sxi . last year had 10 years no claims disccount cost 358 pounds tpf&t . got renewal this time same circumstances plus extra years no claims great renewal quote ( so axa say ) 855 pounds !!!!! .why isnt something being done about these companies its daylight robbery .by law we have to have insurance , petrol prices are ridiculous . someone needs to investigate these insurance companies . looked round for quotes all the same . anyone know why they have been allowed to change insurance group system ? mine was insurance group 4 now its gone to 11 !!!!

Its a common tactic by insurance companies - bump up the renewal quote. Simply use the guide on the main board to get the best quote. Try adding a parent onto the insurance, removing drivers who dont need to be on it, upgrading your excess, try getting fully comp quotes too. You may well be limiting those who will supply you with quotes by specifying 3rd part F&T.

Also, the groups were split from 20 to 40. This explains why your car appears to have a sudden 'jump'. They havent moved it within the original 20 groups, they've moved it within 40.
