Ridiculous Post Ban Insurance

  • I suggest that you follow the advice in the car insurance cost cutting article initially and see what results you get. There are insurers out there who are better than others for "high risk" drivers. Southern rock specialise in this type of thing and underwrite policies for eCar insurance amongst others and they are often on the main comparison sites.

If your quotes are still massive then consider changing your car or adding a named driver to reduce the price. Or even looking into solutions such as pay as you go insurance or six month policies etc.

I got a TT99 in August 2008. Yes I know, it was my fault for speeding. 12 points totted up (4 x SP30) 6 month ban and a fine.

I've been on the bus walking scrounging lifts etc.. since.

    Just got a quote for a P reg Rover 420 2.0 SDi in excess of £3k !

Now I understand that I have been caught speeding, a ban and a fine was my punishment but £3k for insuring a battered old Rover ! !

Does anyone know where I may be able to find cheaper a broker of some description maybe (this one was with Adrianflux) ?

I'm no expert, but would have thought that a anything with a 2 litre engine and SDi/SXi/GTI type letters in it's spec would be more expensive to insure, given your record of habitually speeding.

Try something with a MUCH smaller engine (someone earlier suggested a panda, a little Micra might do, a Saxo ? There are plenty of others).
I know they might not fit your 'image', but maybe your image needs to calm down a bit, otherwise you'll be quite likely to lose your licence again.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

SDi just means its a diesel! Certainly not in the same category as GTi etc...

For the cost of insurance , fuel, tax, servicing, you might as well carry on getting the bus.

Oddly enough, diesels are usually dearer than the petrol version to insure.

I guess because the replacement cost is usually higher, and repair costs can be higher too.

I would take the advice of people on here. You need to insure a car around 1 litre. Google "insurance for tt99 drivers".
