Ridiculous Post Ban Insurance

I got a TT99 in August 2008. Yes I know, it was my fault for speeding. 12 points totted up (4 x SP30) 6 month ban and a fine.

I've been on the bus walking scrounging lifts etc.. since.

Just got a quote for a P reg Rover 420 2.0 SDi in excess of £3k !

Now I understand that I have been caught speeding, a ban and a fine was my punishment but £3k for insuring a battered old Rover ! !

Does anyone know where I may be able to find cheaper a broker of some description maybe (this one was with Adrianflux) ?

You are not really insuring the Rover. You are insuring the person you are likely to kill or injure if you keep your past history up. If you injure someone and it costs £1 million, then the cost of a car at £3000 or £30,000 doesnt really make a lot of difference.

I was expecting a Moral "do gooding" reply from someone such as yourself (having read other posts). You know nothing about me or the circumstances in which i received my points.
AFAIK this is a forum for money saving not moral judgements. I was banned for 6 months which "society" has deemed a fit punishment for my offence. I have served that sentence and a self imposed one for some considerable time afterwards.

Can anyone help me save money on insurance ?

    TIA :)

The insurance companies think you are a higher risk hence the higher insurance

If you want to pay less, dont speed now not only does that save you getting punished its also money saving too plus you save on fuel as a added bonus:)

Errrr, I think he was just stating a fact.

Slight chip on ones shoulder there I think...

It's not just the car but the driver that's being insured and what else has an insurance company got (without going to uneconomical lengths) to go on to judge what type of risk you are?

No one judged you, they were stating facts.

This is part of the punishment I'm afraid, same as drunk drivers, same as dangerous drivers, the punishment goes on furhher than bans.

Its good that posts like this come up really, it reminds others that its not just a fine/ban, it has far reaching effects futurewise.

What about the poor sod who's car gets rammed at the back, no fault of his own and his insurance policy goes up, now thats what is unfair about insurance.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Try doing some quotes on a different car, you might find that you need to switch to a different vehicle until you build up a no claims.

Try a Fiat Panda and see what price you get.

Have you only tried Flux or tried the comparison sites as well?

Now you mention specialist insurers, get yourself a copy of Max Power or some other similar lads car mag. In the back there used to be ads for specialist high risk insurers, like 17 year olds in RS Turbos and people with driving records such as yours. Whether they're competitive or not I don't know but that's who they were advertising to...

You'll have to wait until Aug 2013 to get it reduced down to about £1,000. No NCD so you'll have to be insured another 6 years to get 60% NCD. To get insurance earlier at a reasonable rate you will have to go to a specialist broker but it will still be expensive.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
