I will watch out for weighing things then and make sure I get it right. I could probably do with some new scales, digital ones would be good. I'll have a look online now.
I had low fat bacon and 1/2 tin of beans for breakfast today, then a cereal bar and I'm not hungry for lunch yet, which is quite unusual for me. But, I have had 2 glasses of plain water too, which I never have, usually sugar free squash, juice or pop.. So maybe that has helped me with sugar cravings.
At 27yrs old I feel like I've been on so many diets, and I already feel like I'm going to fail, I guess I've lost my confidence in my ability to stick at anything, although I'm really happy about how I'm feeling by day 3

caloriecount.about.com is sometimes useful to work out weights
so one cup of cooked bulgar wheat is 182g. forgot to say that this weight wont save in your favourities, just the food so if you forget the amounts and weights you're eating, check back on your food log diary and it will say what you ate the last time, then just put the weight in
Okay, so it only weighs in 'cooked weight'? I would probably only weigh pasta, so I could always cook some, weight it and save the remainder until lunch the next day or something.

I need to start exercising soon. Keep meaning to go out but just haven't yet..

well i started on 10th jan and my weigh ins are mondays, although obviously i find it hard to not jump on them in the week and then get disappointed that i havent lost 5 stone by thursday
i have about 7-8 stone to lose realistically, but my initial target is 3 stone, which i should reach by mid july. i will then put my second target in of 3 stone again which should occur by january 2012. that will put me at officially 2 stone overweight. so at that point, i will decide whether to maintain that level of being overweight or get another 2 stone off.
i have lost 6lbs already (im secretly hoping for another 1lb off by monday). i find i eat under my target. the website tells me that im averaging around 1400 cals a day (that is net calories so that takes into account the calories i have used from exercise, thats not what ive actually eaten as ive eaten more than that)
however, luckily or unluckily i also found in october last year that i had unexpectedly lost a stone without reasliing (i think i have undiagnosed overactive thyroid). my worry is that when that is treated my metabolism will slow and i may stop losing or even put on weight and im quite worried about this.
you'll find that if you lose more than your target for each week, your 'goal date' on your profile will move forward, but similarly it may move back if you lose less, dont let this disappoint you, keep in mind the long term goal.0 -

no, it has raw as well, and i think the food focus database has raw and cooked, i just find it easier myself to scoop out a cupfull of rice, bulgur etc rather than weigh it on scales once cooked, so needed to know the weight of a cup (which is obviously different for different products)
you could just as easily weigh out 50g or 200g and just put in your food log (but i dont want the extra washing up of the scales!!)0 -
Sounds like we have the same amount to lose, although my initial target is 12 stones, which is 5.5 stones off. I have been there before and was a 12-14 dress size, so I guess even 10.5/11 stones would be ideal. So that's 7 stones in total.
It's funny because no-one would ever guess I'm this heavy, even my boyfriend doesn't know what I weigh, only my mum, sister and a friend who weighs the same as me, so I told him. My boyfriend weighs 10.5 stones and a 32" waist.. eeeek! So, I find it so hard when I'm dieting as he tries to help, but I always take it personally like he is bullying me lol, it's just an excuse really to blame someone else I suppose.
Well done on the 6lbs! woo!
I'm 17st 8lbs now, so I can't wait to get to 16stone something, that's my immediate goal.
If I'm struggling with 2lbs a week then I might change the target to 1.5lbs so that I don't get demotivated. Although, in the past, I've always lost weight easily when I've stayed on the diet. I don't have a slow metabolism or anything.
I really need to exercise, but I'm not going to force it. My problem is that I love sports! But I don't really enjoy doing things on my own, I get bored.9/70lbs to lose

this is an important point. i also have a saboteur in my head, it tells me ive failed so far to lose weight and keep it off, so whats the point
it tells me ive failed to stick to it today, so whats the point, might as well have something yummy
it tells me that ive done really well today, so treat myself to something yummy
it tells me that ive had a really !!!!!! day, so treat myself to something yummy.
im not sure why or how this thing is in my head, but its very destructive and i need to counter it by focusing on the damage it is doing to me and my health
someone on one of these threads recently said they use the mantra 'im doing this for me' everytime the saboteur comes into my head, i try and counter it with this.
the next stage of sabotage comes when im losing weight. so ive lost 6lbs now, the saboteur is saying '6lbs?? when youve got 7 STONE to lose, thats nothing, you're so far off the target, whats the point, give up now, its all too hard'
so im onto the saboteur now, my partner has agreed to buy a lb of flour for every lb i lose and he will stack them up to show how much weight it is. 6lbs of flour is quite heavy!! its quite helpful
this all sounds mental and i think it is a bit but this is why i get shirty when people give 'helpful' advice to just eat less, just eat reasonable portions. thats fine for those who dont have demons as erich pish said, but those who do need to recognise whats going on and try to fight it0 -

you might have noticed that im too embarrased to give the actual weight,, still in denial!!! but yes, im a stone heavier than you now and thats after losing the 6lb and the stone last year, so i got to a weight that i always felt was not going to happen and the weight that you see on extreme channel 4 programmes!!!
so, realistically i should be about 11.5, i'll get to 13 and see how i feel. i'd be happy with a 14-16, i literally cannot remember the last time i was that size0 -

I can easily lose 4-5lbs and then my body seems to really go into attack mode and get me to put it back on
why can't it just let me lose the weight.
Did I read somewhere that it takes about 66 days to form a new habit!

I watched the biggest loser and I think I would have been big enough to go on there. That really did upset me. Although I don't look as big as them, I bet I probably am.9/70lbs to lose

thats a good point about the 4-5lbs stage. thats what i feel now, im at a point where my head will say, 'ooh, done really well, have a treat, have another treat, well you;ve messed up today because of the treats so dont worry about the rest of today, you deserved it' but that is sabotage,
i think is must be about self esteem and some of self destruction, sort of like invisible self harm. i read somewhere that people our size are committing slow suicide. i think that led to my new positive mindset as that is dreadful0
