we are going for purple & ivory, however im amazed at how many different shades of purple there are! i initially thought cadburys purple now im thinking maybe aubergine! im just worried that all the purples for everything wont match! struggling to find any bm dresses at the min, however were not getting married until sept 2012 but i like to be organised! ideally would prefer dresses less traditional, hoping that coast /john lewis will have something! if anyone has seen anything please feel free to contact me!
    thanks amy x

I think I'm going for a dusky pink BUT it'll probably end up being all sorts of pink. I love bright pink gerberas. My bridesmaids will suit either dark blue or dark pink dresses so we're going for that. I'm also going to be using a lot of green as I'm using wheat as a theme which will still be green on the 25th june. Probably a bit of cream.

But then I'm also thinking about hunter green and cream. Really don't know!!!!!

    Any thoughts would be great!!!
  • I had orginally thought of Dusky pink but have gone for the coast allure dresses in thyme, they are gorgeous. I bought my BMs ivory shoes and will get them an ivory silk pashmina to match. Ive brought a pearl and diamond theme into the wedding too so the girls will be wearing pearl necklaces and bracelets with diamonte earrings.

For the centrepieces im putting a candle with baby pink dried rose petals as my bouquet will have the pink in it which suits the green colour fab, and its a great colour for spring!

You will go mad trying to get everything the exact same shade. The first thing I sorted was the invites and have used a piece of ribbon used on the invites to ensure all my shades of purple 'work with each other' rather than being the exact same. Some shades work together, some don't. As soon as you put them together you can tell. And besides, no one but you will notice or care that they are not the exact same shade! (Which I have to keep reminding myself :p) :D

Thanks for all the ideas!! Didn't expect so many replies. I'm fairly flexible really. The only thing is, because of my sister's skin tone (and mine, not meant in a nasty way!!) we probably don't want yellow as it would make us look washed out. I'm going to look into some of my fave ideas from what you guys have said, but don't want to be too rigid as many people have said this tends to be less MSE.

As I mentioned before, I'm not too creative, so getting everything the exact shade wouldn't be something that would even cross my mind anyway...

Off to think about what colours would suit the bridesmaids!

Also, if you sign up to the Dessy website (you have to register, but you can choose not to receive emails), you can use the Pantone mood board to see how colours go together - fabric swatches (or rather pictures of them!) and dresses/flowers/cakes etc. It's really useful and addictive! I've made about 8 so far...

  • Hi
My colours are fuschia and black & white zebra
I really struggled with choosing my colours. My mum wanted a red theme (the venue is very red), my friends were suggesting pale pink and chocolate brown and I knew that none of them were really 'me'. In the end, OH basically said that whenever I have the option to choose colours for anything else in life, I always opt for the fuschia option and I LOVE zebra print. I thought it would be too much for a wedding but I started a mood board with the colours in and it looked amazing.
People still think I'm a bit mad but I know it will look great.

My dress is perfect for me. It has a white sweetheart neckline, a large black ribbon around the waist and the skirt is fuschia. It took me over a year to find the right dress but I can't wait to wear it.
My BMs are wearing black with fuschia highlights (shoes, flowers, hair feathers)
My flowergirl is wearing a white and fuschia dress.
Pageboy is wearing black suit with a fuschia waistcoat.
Groomy is wearing black suit, plae pink shirt with either a fuschia tie OR a zebra tie (if I can find one that isn't too tacky)
Bestman is wearing black suit, white shirt and pink tie with fuschia buttonhole
