  • Ours is hot pink and black - we wanted something a bit different to the traditional! We are getting married in April (eek!)

Bms wearing black dresses with hot pink accessories
Invites are black pearlised pocketfolds with black and white damask, and pearlised hot pink borders, with the writing on ice white pealised paper
My bouquet - big bunch of hot pink gerberas and some greenery
BMs - small bouquet without the greenery
Table decs - big bowls with silver wire, hot pink gerbs and lit up underneath
Best man having hot pink cravat
My mum is having hot pink in her purple hat
Black or hot pink table crystals scattered about
Black ribbon on the each tier of the cake with the middle tier having a diamante brooch

I wanted a black dress, but my Mum said no!!

My sisters had turquoise, ivory and silver (the wedding was by the sea) and chocolate brown, gold and cream (December wedding in a country hotel so wanted warm but not Christmassy colours).

Some things you might want to think about to give you some ideas:

    - Your/your OH's favourite colours (maybe his football or rugby team's colours?)
    - Where your wedding is being held - both the colours of your venue (I once read about a couple who had lemon yellow and black as their colour scheme because the venue had a bee mosaic) and the surrounding areas (countryside, seaside etc)
    - Flowers in season at the time of year you get married
    - What colours suit your bridesmaids
    - If you want a theme of any kind and what colours might go with it

I also remember when I worked in a hotel that one couple had an 'Old Hollywood' themed wedding and had black, ivory and silver as their colour scheme. It may seem a bit morbid to some people to have black as a wedding colour, but if you get it right I think it can work really well.

Not really a colour theme throughout, but decided on burgundy for the table runners and favours.
However my bouquet will be hot pink and cream, and I don't know what colour my fiance is going to wear for his tie / cravat...
The invites are brown and pink so you see we're flexible.

  • Unless you have specific ideas about what you or OH want it might be easier to wait until you start picking things and then narrow it down from there. It also depends how 'picky' you are (not meant in a nasty way, just can't think of another word!) - if you have a really strict colour scheme or unusual colours it can make it much more difficult to find things (i.e. perfect tie/shoes/flower/favours/etc, bargain price, wrong shade - AAAaaahhh!). Time is an issue - if you are planning in 2-3 months it might be less stressful to be less strict than if you have ages and can spend weeks seeking out an exact shade. Budget plays a part too - MSE bargain spotting is easier if you are not tied to a strict colour scheme. However, it is really important to some people - so it just depends if you are one of those people!

I had a very vague colour scheme that just developed over time of blue-ish (everything from aqua through to purple!) - because nothing 'matched' it all toned in together...or I thought anyway! I started with my bridesmaid dresses as I was getting them from the high street and it meant we had the biggest choice possible...after that I just got as near a possible for everything else.

black and red. My dress is champagne, the flowergirls will be wearing black with red fluffy shrugs, and the ladies in waiting have all bought the same dress in red. Only trouble is, these two reds just about match, a deep red colour, but the red for H2B and all the boys is a totally different shade being more of a scarlet colour! Have to see where to go from here and how I can match it up as the red was originally chosen to highlight the slight red in H2Bs kilt!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm having dusky pink too :)

    Using it for bridesmaid dresses
    on invitations
    chairs in marquee
roses of various pinks in my bouquet
    table decorations

...pretty much anywhere I can get it. I thought pink would be an easy colour to find wedding things for but it's surprising how hard it is to come by some things. I'll keep hunting on for bridesmaides dresses! :D

Trying to live a good life on little money :T
  • Ours are black, dark red and Ivory. My H2B decided on the colours (he is a ManU fan - I only let him have them because Man Citys third kit is black red and white too).

My dress is mainly Ivory with dark red instead of the zip up back shown here she (Mia) has given me an ivory ribbon and a red one so I can swap them between the day and the night do!

Dress was a bargain at £236, with petticoat and made to measure.
My bouquet is dark red foam roses with a few ivory ones
The bridemaids are having Ivory corsages.
    Red button hole for groom
    Ivory buttonholes for guests
The suits will be some combination of Red, ivory and black but H2B is sorting that out.
Chair covers will be ivory with alternating black and dark red sashes.

We didn't have too much trouble deciding that the men would be wearing brown Prince Edward suits!

Bridesmaids are wearing pistachio green short dresses with matching ivory shoes and ivory silk pashmina
Invites in dark brown 'envelope' with ivory ribbon to fasten. Wording, menu, directions etc on cream card with brown writing and green and brown border to match bm's/ushers
My bouquet textured antique pink and cream roses with drop effect
BMs - handtied smaller version of mine without drop
Table decs - ivory linen and chair covers with brown sash on each. High cream flower arrangement with mirror underneath and scatter crystals.
Groom, best men, ushers, Dad's, pageboys- combination of matching pistachio green taffeta rouches, waistcoats for little boys, cream waistcoats and groom is going to have his rouche made from my excess wedding dress material (maybe!)
My mum is having cream and brown Phase Eight outfit and statement fascinator
Cake is 4 tiers on a tree trunk base with pearls around the bottom of each layer. Design from our stationery is going to be recreated on the side with our names and date too.

    Phew- think that's it!!
