Removing search cripples the forum becuase it removes the "View New Posts" functionality. Put it back and suffer it being slow!

I was also trying to find if anyone else had a problem... glad I found out I am not the only one.

Just shows how necessary the search facility is... took me ages to find this post!! I had no idea where to start looking........

I've just logged on and I don't have a search facility on mse, any ideas?

Is it me or a problem with the site.

Any ideas what I can do?

I wont use the site unless I can use the new posts function. Makes it too messy to use without it.
  • Here here, where has it gone? It's the easiest way to keep up with lastest info... I'm not wanting to trawl through 100's of posts to find what I want...

If the load is database side, adding a replication slave and directing search to that is one possible approach. Longer term, using the sphinx storage engine, designed for and dedicated to search, is likely to be the best way. Much lower load than MyISAM fulltext search. That's OK for a while but ultimately it gets outgrown if a site continues to grow.
