Send a fax via the internet/computer

Options
Is it possible to send a fax via the internet or my computer. For FREE.

I don't have a fax machine at home and want to send one from home. Please put links to websights that allow you to do this.

There may be websites that do it and put ads on, but I wouldn't bother with that.

For receive, you can get a free fax-to-email number from several providers, usually 0870 or 0845, or pay for one with an ordinary area code number; eFax is one of the most well-known, and recommended by several ISPs. They also have a sending service but this costs.

You can send a fax from the PC, using a dial-up modem and just paying the normal cost of the call. If you are on broadband and your PC doesn't have a dial-up modem, get one for about £10

Then, Windows XP has a Fax component that isn't installed by default. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Windows Components. Tick the box for Fax Services, and you'll need your Windows CD. It's pretty easy to set up, and you can then send from within Office programs or compose separately.

Hi HappySad (which is it today)

This doesn't answer your questions since you put for FREE, but I'd thought I'd post anway.

I use http://www.interfax.net/ for sending. It sends most file formats attached to your email to a fax number, images, pdfs, docs, etc - it's not free it's a service, but it's not too expensive. I think you need to create an account and credit it with a minimum of £10. It sits there and goes down each time you send a fax. If you've just got one to send and no more ever why not take it down the library or somewhere local that will send it for you.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.

  • Hello. Try to check RingCentral . They offer various faxing services that might help you with your needs.
  • Hi, as you have asked, this is the link to hosted service. You don't need a software or hardware, you receive your number and can start faxing away in 5 minutes from your email. Send faxes to email and receive faxes to email. More than that you also have an online account, where you can do that as well. Hope it helps.

One of the great mysteries is why someone hasn't figured out how to do this using broadband.
To have to regress to the days of dial-up modems is a bit of a nuscience.

Now to confirm this type of thing you have to print it, sign it. scan it in, compress it and email it.
Fax was by some distance simpler.
