Is there a Free Android satnav
Comments

On the iPhone there is Navfree - a free offline satnav, you just download the app (it's almost 1 gig including the maps) and then you can use it as a satnav without needing to be connected to the internet at all. Unfortunately there is no free equivalent on Android I'm afraid. There are howver a bunch of paid offline satnav apps, starting from £19poppy100

I've experimented with google maps navigation - its obviously pretty useless when you are in an area without mobile data coverage (which seems to be anywhere I'm likely to get lost). Best to get a nav app that downloads all the map data - CoPilot is pretty good if you cant find a free one.0

few review & ideas here

I have a xte blade/orange sanfran and to be honest the google maps nav is pretty useless unless as others said your in a good data coverage area, I do believe that google now offer an offline map bit but only available to android 2.2 so i'll have a play later & see if thats an improvement..
for now I have co-pilot live & faster & seems a little better than my dedicated garmin sat nav unitWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
I have the HTC desire and use Google maps as others do, up to now it has not let me down.:pB&SC No. 298

For the Android, it's not free but I think it's good price, I use Co Pilot, under £25 and does a very good job.
I use it more than my Tom Tom now.
MartinBeen there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!0 -
.....And I don't see any reason why they would go against this by having a huge map download onto the device, when it's easier to use internet to download maps as you're going along....
There are plenty of places where you dont even have phone reception,
or say you want navigation abroard where roaming charges will rack up a hefty bill.
or you might not want your 3g radio irratiating you constantly
or you might want to conserve some power for your power hungry smartphone
or you just might not want google to gather more analytics about you
I do remember hearing about a gps app for andriod that uses "open source" maps but i cant quite remember what it was called.0 -
