Memory Foam Mattress Toppers?

That does seem really expensive just for a topper and a ridiculous waste of money. Just get a new mattress! I got a really good one 3 years ago that seems to have come down in price since then. It is only a couple of hundred quid. I'll send details if you like. She can shove the landlords mattress somewhere else whilst she uses her spangly new one.0

You can get a very good single mattress for well under £200. However the problem with this is that with landlords you often have to leave the original mattress when you move out. So if there isn't much storage space for the mattress, then this could be a problem.0 -
There's no space for the old mattress and £200 is well over the budget. A mattress topper than can be moved when she does is the only option really0

To be honest with you I have never tried one to sleep on, I've just felt them in the store. The advantage I have being in the bed trade is that I can make sure I get the right mattress, and won't need a topper like this.0 -
there's more to it than cost I'm afraid.
Density and depth are important. They say you shouldn't bother buying anything less than 3" and depending on your weight and how you like your mattress dependins on the density. If you are "normal" weight a 50 or 60 would be fine, "over weight" between a 60-80 is good.
Theres lots out there to read about them, even videos on yu tube!!! Also it is suggested that you buy one that is not vacumn or commpression packed as it impacts on the quality of the foam.
Good luck, hope your friend enjoys..........I will never sleep on anything else now....I am a convert!!Many a Mickle makes a Muckle!0 -

The density and depth are very important, but I'm afraid someone has been giving you duff information.
The optimum depth is 2" to 2.5". Anything deeper is just too deep. You won't get any better support, and you will just sink deeper into it, which can make you too hot.
The optimum density is 60 to 70kg per m3. If the density is too low, then it won't give you very good support. If it is too high, then it will give excellent support, but it has a very slow recovery rate, making it difficult to change position. A density of 50kg would only suit an extremely light person.0 -
Hi
I've bought three from a seller on Ebay and they have been great.
I just make sure I turn them when I change the sheets and they have kept their shape and haven't flattened at all. I noticed a real difference even though I did have decent beds and comfy matresses to start with.
If they don't come in a cover, I recommend you pop a mattress protector on top.My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.0 -
Hey,
I understand it may not be what you guys would call a bargain but I heard a review not that long ago on the BBC JVS consumer clinic. The consumers gave a mattress topper from zonesleep.co.uk a rave review. 9.5 out of 10 so I hear. I'm in the process of buying a new mattress but.......Obviously for a decent one it's gonna cost ££££ so. What are my options? I buy a memory foam one and overheat. I buy a sprung one and run the risk of it causing the same problems as my last. Or I buy a topper to re-vamp my old mattress.
A half decent sprung mattress will cost you say £500 like the one I've got now. It's a double, and due to the V.A.T rise etc getting one of a similar standard will be more expensive. So I'm looking into getting a topper and the best candidate so far is Zonesleep. I've been looking around the site, and they've even got a copy of the review it got on the homepage.
I don't know whether this helps anyone as the topper is £189.99 for a double (cheaper than a new mattress) and if it's as good as they say it is then....well it's a no brainer.
Has anyone got a Zonesleep topper? Would they recommend it? Does it make more sense than buying a mattress?
Cheers
