Why would any one want to shop at tesco, if you have a choice ,there over priced, bland ,an way to big a share of the grocery market .
I live in hope that all giants will one day fall.

Well, I for one do the majority of my shopping at Tesco. I don't find it any more expensive than the other major supermarkets. I've just picked up a lovely cauli for example for 73p, much better than the tiny seedy looking object they tried to sell me on the market this weekend for almost £2.:p

I also shop at Morrisons & would shop at Sainsbury's too if I had the option..hopefully there will be one opening soon. We don't have the likes of Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains etc etc anywhere near us so they are not an option.

I used to shop at Asda when in my previous home, as that was the only real option available to me at the time..but I'd be unlikely to go back if they opened one here. I find the quality & taste of the other supermarkets much better.

As for giants..maybe, but they could only become so by providing the services. At least they haven't sold out to the yanks. :D There is always a plus side to this too...they are a major source of employment in our town...without them there would be many many people out of work.

I used to only shop at Tescos but for the past few months I agree, the stocking system is beyond a joke! Its like they feel the need to be totally out of stock before restocking and then they only do this at 5am.

I go to pick up frozen vegetables and fresh fruit (apples) and fine both fully out of stock 9/10 times I visit. I now shop at Sainsburys as a result. It used to be out of my way but you know what? if you really want something badly enough it some how works!

I sent a letter of complaint to Tescos head office who said they would forward my email to the people who are incharge of this aspect of Tescos. But I have not yet seen any changes so I continue to shop elsewhere.

Its not all bad though: I can't afford to buy as much now so I have lost weight! Been trying to do this for a long time so am truely grateful to not having the money to buy as much food now!

I somewhat agree - I never really thought of Tesco as being that expensive seeing as most things I buy are on offer but saying that I can't really compare as Ive never shopped elsewhere. I have noticed though that some things have gone up a lot lately, Old el paso kit from £2.81 to £3.18 and cans of tuna from 40p to 55p...It all adds up I suppose.

Actually went and did shopping again this Monday, but went earlier around 5.30pm and there was absolutely no chicken left on the shelf and there was about 400 packs of value bacon reduced as it was going off that day - someone needs to sort out their stock management!

Am tempted to try shopping at either Sainsburys or Asda (never again at Lidl or Aldi ) but I suppose I don't particularly like change - Some products I buy are specific to Tesco for example.
I guess it might be worth the trip to see - If I could get my shopping for less than £40 a week Id be laughing but I can imagine it would only work out cheaper as I wouldnt be able to get the same things Id buy if I was in Tesco. Oh well, we shall see....

In our town there are 2 Tesco's, a small rubbishy one, and a larger one. The small one was my nearest supermarket and I would pop there if I didn't have time to go to Asda, Morrisons or Sainbury's and I didn't find it too bad. BUT, now I've moved to the other side of town and Sainbury's (recently extended to be apparently the biggest one in England) is now my local, when I do go to Tesco I find it poorly stocked, and, well just pants really, esp the smaller one. I only go when I've had my mailing of Clubcard vouchers, or when we run low on Tesco hot choc power for the girls (it's the only one they like and they have a cup or 2 of it every day - not much powder and plenty of milk as they don't like drinking milk).

OH was off on Monday and we took a load of stuff to the tip and stopped off in the small Tesco as it's only 2 minutes away. I was totally under-impressed. There were lines that I know they used to stock which I couldn't find, empty spaces, short dates etc. I bought some munch bunch drinky things for the kids as they've just decided they like them - no own brand ones like in Sainsbury's, but they were 2 for £2.50 or £2 each. Got them home and DD1 wanted one at lunch time, went to open it and the date on top said 18th Jan!! This was on 24th. I know I normally look at dates, but we were in a rush and they were at the front of the shelf. I couldn't believe they were 6 days out of date! The other pack were ok, and OH took them back yesterday and got a refund, he said the woman on CS appologised but didn't seem overly bothered.

After shopping regularly in Mr S's, I don't think I'll be going back to Mr T's unless I really need to. They may have the monopoly, but not on me lol.

Our local Tescos seems ok most times I go, but it's a new one, so perhaps they're keeping it stocked well to get a customer base. I don't shop regularly though as I follow offers from shop to shop on things I buy most and save that way. The next nearest has been dire for some time - never stocked well and very very shabby.

tesco is great if you are only in there for the 1/2 price items. everything else i would avoid and just buy at morrisons or sainsburys.
tesco to me represent terrible service and shoddy products.
    never cheaper either.

I live in what is known as "Tesco Town". We are a small town but we have:

We have two super stores, one on edge and and one in the centre of town
    and 4 tesco express.

I hate Tesco that much the only thing I buy in there is my cat food. I'd rather drive half an hour to Asda who is always fully stocked.

So now I do a monthly shop in Asda and top up shops in Icelands

Like another poster said I don't have any choice but to shop in Tesco, although I'd much rather go to asda. But as I don't drive, have 2 (hungry) children, my husband works long hours and doesn't want to drive miles to do the shopping when he is home and the only other option in my small town is a tiny co-op, or a Waitrose in the next town a mile or so away, I have to rely on them. They have monopolised my town, pushed out all the littler retailers and it's not even a huge store. The choice of items is very limited, a lot of the value or discount brand ranges aren't stocked and there are items that I simply can't get. Recently I was looking for carpet cleaner and tea-light candles and they stocked neither - and because there are no other shops in the town I'll have to wait and take up one of my hubby's precious days off with a shopping trip.
Like someone else said I also find it frustrating when they are out of stock on things like nappies and formula - nappies ok, you can buy another brand (albeit a more expensive one), but formula is one the thing I have to have a particular variety as my son was premature and two out of the three major brands upset his tummy.
One thing I will say is that the staff are friendly and do try to help. On one of the occasions there wasn't any formula on the shelf one of the customer services ladies went and checked the lorry which had just arrived to see if they had any come in (which they hadn't lol), and then put one back for me when it did come in. And I find the clubcard vouchers helpful, although I know I'm ultimately paying for them in the long run. But as I don't have a choice where I shop it comes as a big bonus when they come through the door.
Same where I live, tesco has taken over, small co-up and waitrose in the next town. I drive so do pop to waitrose for meat and things marked down, waitrose do reduce their stock quite a bit. Our tesco seems to be getting more and more household items and less food items. Thursday and friday morning are awful as the elderly population from the surrounding villages come by bus to shop there.
  • We now have an Iceland so I think I will be taking my custom there :).

I usually have no problems with Tesco but it can be very expensive depending on what you want and it is no surprise that a lot of customers spend time looking at items and getting their "money's worth.":rotfl:
