Tesco - Anyone else less than impressed?

Well Ive been shopping at the same Tesco store (a big Extra one) for the best part of 3 years now and I have to say lately I am less than impressed with the whole experience....
We've gone to do the weekly shop on the same night (Monday) for a long time now but for the last two months or so we've found the shop is somewhat empty!
I could more than understand it in December what with christmas and the snow but now I don't see why - there seems to be massive voids on the shelves lately, especially bread and meat, and any meat that is left is terrible dated - we always go around the same time every evening around 7pm and its a 24hr store so I don't get why theres hardly anything on the shelves. OH did think maybe they've changed the day of delivery, which I suppose is possible.
I can only assume that it's only going to get worse - the other big Tesco in the town is closing down next week (being knocked down, rebuilt and turned into a tesco extra) so I assume loyal Tesco shoppers will be driving the extra few mile to our store instead - I dread to think how little will be left then...
Im tempted to start shopping elsewhere if it means I can actually get what I need.
Has anyone else found that Tesco stock is somewhat thin on the ground lately or it is just my store?

I went last night, and I was supprised how some staple foods were not in stock. I always found tesco's to be well stocked. And was extremly disappointed.
ALSO my pranda grado cheese jumped from £1.15 to £2.00 and EV Olive Oil £2.25 to £2.99!
Absolutly cheeky! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -

Olive oil prices have gone up everywhere because the raw product has shot up due to low crop yeilds, hence every part of the manufacturing and supply chain having to increase charges.
As for low stock at 7pm, I find this a problem no matter where I go, especially on short date items, once the days delivery is sold out, that's it until the next truck arrives. Try a different day, or see if you can get in earlier. A lot of stores have just lost their Xmas temp staff and are now probably finding times where they just don't have the staff to stock upWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Dont get me started, tesco are monopolising *********'s they take other stores coupons for scrap, basically Cant be bothered to do it themselves, they make petty comments about asda when it makes no sense what so ever. "why go to asda we will give you the change" Umm that makes no sense?0

My local Tesco is rather pants. Its not a major store but enough to enable you to do a large shop. Some days meat/ veg/fruit/flowers is scarce. Buying nappies & Formula was a nightmare when I needed them a couple of yrs ago. They don't sell clothes so I have to drive 13 miles to the Extra one. They desperately need a bigger store but local council is totally against it.....they don't see its an exention on the store they have as they're offered to build affordable homes on the old site.......great bait!
So I pop about once a month to the extra store. Also shop in Morrisons & Asda will be taking the awful Netto store over this year:j so I can go there too (I :heart2: Asda!)!!0 -
Actually quite like Tescos (I get all OCD about collecting points
)
My only real gripe with them is that they've combined Customer Services with the ciggy kiosk - makes it very difficult to nip in and get a paper and a packet of ciggies quickly

Fair enough, but a 74% price increase on a cheese?
On the orginal subject, I have noticed that at times it's the cheaper price items not on the shelves, I have started to not buy the more expensive items to replace what they don't have what I want it.
Or I will rearange a meal I was planning to make it cheaper, or use what I have in the house. The other day I replaced feta for morzorella etc.
I won't go over on my grocery challenge

There's always a good reason, they don't go out of their way to !!!! off customers intentionally. Often they can absorb price rises as long as they can, until eventually they have no choice but to jump it up...alternative is that they chip it up pennies at a time, either way it would be the price it is now.
Working in retail distribution, and having family who work higher up in Morrisons management, I have an insight into why some things shoot up, of course the customer just sees the changes on the shelf with no way of understanding why the change happened...it's not always about greed (although sometimes it is, they are out to make a profit after all).We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
tesco never absorb prices they just squeeze suppliers no matter which ones they are.
I find tesco over priced, so much so that tried the 10% thing on asda website for the first time in ages the other day and they were £17 more expensive now they can moan they dont take into account veg and the other things but spending £17 extra on the other stuff I buy isnt going to happen.0 -
I dont shop at Tesco,- well very occassionally anyway. They are stupidly overpriced and their customer services is pants.
For those people who shop there for points,- why on earth do you?? You are paying way over the odds for everyting to get these points, and they are being so devalued anyway as to be worth very little,- definitely not three times their value0 -

Hmmmm, not sure where the way overpriced part comes in. Perhaps it depends on where you are and what you have available to you. We have a medium sized Tesco, a small Morrisons & an even smaller Co-op. The Co-op is way over priced, Tesco's & Morrisons, apart from the individual offers, are the same price for virtually everything. The only difference is a few pence here & there for veg..tesco usually coming out cheaper. Our Tesco's is certainly cheaper for meat, but I tend to use a butcher so that doesn't really make a difference to me.
Asda may be cheaper, I don't know, but not really worth my time, petrol & wear & tear on the car for the long round trip. Not keen on the taste of the few Asda items I've tried anyway.
Customer services have also been excellent too. Strangely I have found the attitude curt & frosty in Morrisons on more than one occassion, but never in Tesco's, so maybe it's just the luck of the draw as to where you live.0
