SPAM Problem

alanclose wrote:Have you thought of setting up message rules in OE6, depending on the type of spam you are getting quite often a simple message rule deleting all e-mails with certain words can greatly cut down the amount of spam you get. As you say blocking senders doesn't really work but once you set up a message rule it doesn't matter where the e-mail comes from, if it contains a word you've added to the list, like Viagra then you never get to see it
I like this idea, unfortunately it never seems to have the same subject line...{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
cwoodham wrote:That's a little unfair. I use the last freeware version of Mailwasher (version 1.33) and it does everything you list above - as you say 'checks all my servers and lets me know when mail arrives. I can then see what is on the server and delete all the junk and download only what i want'. I can also apply filters to tag emails which aren't directly addressed to me and delete them straight away on the server.
How do these programs 'do a far better job'? Mailwasher does everything I need and I'm quite happy with it.
By all means suggest your program but dont knock others when they are equally as effective.
POPpeeper isnt an antispam tool it just keeps checking if you have mail waiting to arrive instead of having Outlook Open and clicking on send/recieve and if you do have mail you can manually remove it from the server, or view it with POPpeeper or with Outlook or Outlook Express.
A tru antispam tool is something like mailwasher or http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ccspamfilter.html0 -

Also many spam use embedded images rather than text so there are no words to search for."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I know it won't work for these but its a simple method of cutting out a lot of spam.0 -
I would have suggested spamihilator as it is working quite well for me, but another poster tried it after my suggestion and is having difficulties.

The only product I have seen so far that claims at least to acknowledge the problem of image spam is Spamfighter
Unfortunately I was not able to install it on XP home (install error message), and tech support could not help either. Has anyone tried Spamfighter?0 -
I did not use my computer for about three days and when I logged on again I had about 100 emails most of them 'obscene' to say the least. I do not mind 'normal' spam emails I have changed my email address I hope.
Help me, it must be something simple.

As mentioned above, set up a message rule to automatically delete any e-mails with your chosen offensive words or download one of the software packages mentioned above0

Anyone who is getting Spam offers to buy amazing shares in the USA may wish to forward them to the American "Stock Exchange" - if they get flooded with emails they might do something about tracking the sudden large share sales that must follow from "pump and dump" operations.
Just forward the emails to:-
