To give you a comparison - I have a 2002 (52) Fiesta MK6. It still has all of its original bulbs, exhaust and brakes and passes the MOT fine. The wipers I change everytime I notice them smearing so probably once every few years.
My car goes to my local independant and depending on what I ask him to do for the service it normally comes in at £80-90 mark including the MOT. Although it is a petrol and not a derv.

For that amount of money, I would imagine you have a diesel and the 60,000 (or other major serice) service which include possibly cam belt etc.

If not, go elsewhere next time.
    End quote.

Its a Petrol, unless the garage has tried to fit spark plugs to a diesel.

    Don't you drive it?

My 2004 Zafira has it's second set of discs, at least it's third set of pads all round, several bulbs, second set of plugs, second cam belt, but it does have it's original exhaust.

If that is all they did, that is outrageous. It depends on what else was included in the service.

Did you ask for an itemised invoice showing the prices they charged for each item and the labour charge for each item? When you spend this much money on something, you are entitled to have the bill explained to you in detail. The dealer will have a standard menu of prices and have a guide from Ford saying how much time each item takes.

However, labour costs could be £50 @ hour + VAT so that adds up pretty quick.

You might consider going to Ford HQ if it still doesn't make sense.

Get the invoice details up in full - it's not unusual for main dealerships to include items that weren't done or not necessary. Like when my sister was charged for a full tin of brake cleaner when we knew the wheels hadn't been removed and the brakes were still filthy, or the old chestnut of screenwash top up when it was full to the brim before going in!

You really should get a full quote before the service and ask what's inlcluded. Any additional work needed for the MoT pass should be subject to your say-so over the phone before they do the work. For certain minor items (e.g. bulbs) you're allowed to fix the vehicle yourself and get a free retest.

Wow - do you drive it like you stole it or do you do astonomical miles
My 2006 Honda has had one set of front pads, no discs, no bulbs, no plugs, no cam belt (chain) and a set of tyres.

I've bought ten tyres so far, and worn out the back shocks, and it's on it's second windscreen.

Brake fluid should be changed every two years.
Just had the brake fluid changed by main Jag. agent on my 1998 XJ8 agent - cost £67. I get it changed every 4 years - same for the antifreeze. No problems after 9 years ownership.
  • Tbh its a main dealer so not surprised

Full whack for the MOT £54; Service circa £200, Wipers prob about a tenner each, prob 30 quid for the brake fluid change and prob another £200 for brake pads.

Rip off but I doubt unlike most main stealers

I agree - this is the experience I have had with most main dealers with one exception.
Our local Honda dealer has done our last 4 services for each car for under £200 including an MOT (free) and breakdown cover (free). I'm really impressed - they even have fixed prices for some stuff like brake pads (under £100) and they price match tyres - excellent. :D
