Just had service/ MOT, final bill was quite expensive.
The garage where I got it done does offer a price match service, just wondered what other moneysavers would expect to pay to have the following done:
    -indicator bulbs x2
    -brake fluid/ anti freeze change
    -front brake pads
    -3 x wipers
    -spark plugs

    any guesstimates?

I guess our lovely independent garage chap would have charged us about £120 - £150 for the lot, including picking up/delivering the car, and pre checking everything prior to the MOT, and of course the test itself.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Thankyou for your replies. To put you in the picture, the garage in question is a ford deelership, and I know they are notorious for being pricey, but even so, this was more than i expected.

TBH the wipers were a bit 'smeary' but you could still see out. They have done the same with a previous car I had. Of course had i had the time I could have changed them before hand myself I know.
The bulbs, they state were 'glowing white'. Obv when they say the car needs X and Y doing, they kind of have you, as you need the MOT passing. I don't have the job sheet on me atm but can give more details if required. The car in question is a 3 yo Focus. Low milage. Although tbh i wasn't too surprised about the breaks as they flashed that up last service. Would you advise me to get a quote from elsewhere, as it has been suggested the expected price is below what i paid.
BTW to put you out of your misery it was £545 (Service/MOT/Parts/labour)

For that amount of money, I would imagine you have a diesel and the 60,000 (or other major serice) service which include possibly cam belt etc.

If not, go elsewhere next time.

If that was just for what you describes, then that's quite horrendous! You don't need to take it to Ford for the service history and quite honestly, knowing that dealerships use trainee's to do the simple stuff and servicing work, i'd not go near em.

Brake fluid and anti-freeze shouldn't need changing at 3 years either, not unless it had a cambelt change at the same time (which would normally mean a water pump change).

  • £545.... mother of god, thats a bit excessive. MOT would only be 45quid(or less) so they made some serious cash out of you.

Brake fluid should be changed every two years.
  • WOW, what do they charge for timing belts and service if that wasnt in the service itself.

jesus that money would of bought someone a tidy little run around.
