Expensive service?
Just had service/ MOT, final bill was quite expensive.
The garage where I got it done does offer a price match service, just wondered what other moneysavers would expect to pay to have the following done:
-indicator bulbs x2
-brake fluid/ anti freeze change
-front brake pads
-3 x wipers
-spark plugs
any guesstimates?

Parts cost?
Bulbs are maybe 50p each
Brake fluid £10-£15
Anti-freeze is dirt cheap
Wipers around £15 for a set
Brake pads £20-£50
Spark plugs £10-£15
On top of that, you've got oil and and filters.... Talking around £50 for those.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Strider590 is right - if you can get the parts at trade prices you will potentially save a load.
Dealer quote for changing a pollen filter - £60.
Price of part I bought yesterday? £7+VAT, 10 seconds to fit.0 -
My bet is £350 which probably won't be far off the mark.
Just out of interest, why did it fail on indicator bulbs and knackered wipers? Did you not notice the indicators flashing too quickly or not being able to see out of the windscreen as the wipers merely smeared the screen instead of clearing it?0 -

Those are the same figures as id say to be honest based upon the prices ive bought things for recently. Labour charges, id say a couple of hours work, so £100+VAT.
Sounds like the garage is very very fussy. Ive never known a car to fail on window wipers before. And only once did I have a car fail on indicator bulbs - the garage claimed they werent "orange" enough, even though the bulbs were the original ones which came from the factory and had passed the MOT loads of times before without any problems.0 -
was it brake fluid top up or a full system bleed the cost of the mot as well
so im in there with £250 ( if mot is included)
i hope we find out what it was0 -

Original items and passed 'loads' of MoTs = very old = may have finally faded below an acceptable level?0 -
the orange paint on the bulbs can flake off
if they were orange bulbs0 -

Depends what car.. Pads can vary drastically in price as can the Oil.
I've just serviced my own Vectra I use for work... Everything bar cambelt as its not due.
All genuine VX parts plugs & filters except Oil which was carlube as cheaper than the GM stuff which I've ran out of.
£33 all in for the bits and 45mins of my own time.... So hours labour on top if you were paying.
So Pads and brake fluid & coolant on top.. bulbs are pence... + taking it for MOT, If I was to be doing it for someone else I'd be wanting around £175 all in**
Obviously depends on what car... **Thats based on my own daily drive Vectra.0 -
My friends old Merc cost £800 for a service, not including parts.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
