Waiting for operation so my employer has made me redundant and I have appealed

Options
I am due to have the appeal heard in a couple of weeks which is six weeks after I was made redundant.

I have never done an appeal before so does anyone have any advice who has done an appeal.

Thanks

    I appealed my redundancy. Unsuccessfully.

What grounds are you appealing on?

If your role was going to be made redundant anyway, you won't stand a chance really. Regardless if you were off sick, or not.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I came down with an injury a couple of years ago but with physio therapy I was only off work a couple of weeks, last October the condition re occured and I have not been able to work since.
At first I was giving in a sick note every two weeks so my company were booking work though it had to be rebooked as I handed in another 2 week sick note.

I talked to my doctor as I felt nothing was improving with phsio this time and said how long do you think I might be off, my doctor said we will put a longer sick note in ( 8wks ) as it would be better for my company to know I could be off a fair bit.
The day I faxed the 8 week sick note in I had an email back the same day telling me that a meeting to discuss future remedial works was to be held at the depot near where I live.

I attended the meeting and the only thing being discussed was one of the two enginners was going to be made redundant ( me being one of the engineers ) and guess what they chose me a month later after "consultation"

This means only one enginner is covering the whole of the UK which is impossible and I also know that sub contractors are being used since I was made redundant as a couple of my customers have phoned and told me so.

So this is why I have appealed my redundancy.

If they tell you the role is redundant, then employ someone else to do it they'll leave themselves open to employment tribunal.

Not if they are outsourcing the role and using contractors.

My application to the Employment Tribunal was successful as of yesterday so that has pleased me, now for an interesting few months to come I believe.

Any advice will be most welcome.

check your house insurance for legal cover? as this will be painful and stressful enough without a solicitor to help

    Ask your union?
