you can have more than 1 Barclaycard. If you apply through the online pages, it is perfectly possible to be approved for a new card or 2 or even 3. There may be some restrictions such as a shared credit limit (your £3k linit may turn into 2 x £1500)
be warned though, you will probably not be allowed to BT from an existing card to a new one.

I haven't applied for one yet. I am planning to have one, and that's it. :p

Barclaycard Applications Hotline state that if you apply for a card you are not eligible for, and you are eligible for another, they will include an application form for that product. You won't have to wait six months before re-applying.

So if you apply for a Classic, which you are turned down for, but pass the scoring on Initial, they'll send you an Initial application which you can send right back :o

I am applying in branch. The procedure you told me I assume is regarding online applications. Do you think it will be the same procedure?
  • I applied the other day (18th) and was accepted, they then proceeded to cancel my account on the same day. I have created a thread on this but I cannot post a link to it as I am a new user.

My o/h has just informed me my card has arrived now!

If you apply in branch and the application is referred, it goes to Barclaycard underwriting

They then write to you with one of four things:

    1. A letter to say your application has been declined
    2. A letter to say your application has been declined but you may be eligible for another product - with an application form for that product enclosed
    3. A letter to say they need more information - i.e. ID and / or Bank Statements and / or payslips
    4. A card and letter confirming your credit limit

The reply you get from an application referred in branch would undoubtedly be the same as the reply you get from an on line application being referred - as the same Barclaycard underwriting team will deal with the decision making.

I can't comment on what you would get for an application outright declined in branch though as this wouldn't be review by the Barclaycard underwriting team.

I however would be weary of applying in branch - I have applied for Barclays group products in branch before, and have had the branch staff either make up the income and expenses / time at address / employment / etc and / or not ask for sufficient ID.

Applying online ensures that Barclaycard are given correct, sufficient, accurate information.

    Whatever happens, good luck

If I get a letter for more ID/bank statements/payslips, I don't have bank statements/payslips, as they are online. ID wise I have passport and driving licence. I don't think they would ask for ID, as I'm an existing customer. When I openend another account with them, all I need is to put my PIN in the PINsentry machine, and answer security questions. Barclaycard (I assume) have the same system as Barclays, where they could see my transaction details/bank statements. The system has my employment details anyway.

Instead of having letters sent, I hope I get a straight answer (accepted or decline). I assume the system will do this.

When I first had a bank account with them, making up information didn't happen. :o They ask you for informtion and type it in accordingly. I think staff that make up information is against their contract. I think they might have done this to make a sale (the staff gets comission, and customer gets the product).

The advert of the credit card is not on the 'At a Glance' section anymore. :(

My spending patterns didn't even change, didn't go overdrawn, etc... Strange

Barclays pre-approved offers are updated on the first monday of everything month.

These can be viewed under pre-approved offers on line. Anything else showing is just an advert and not pre-approved.:)

I haven't applied yet. I'll wait until I have been in my new job for 6 months, so I can score better. :o
