After logging online to my Barclays online banking, under the 'At a Glance' section, a Barlcaycard Classic advertisement has popped up.
Is this advert for everyone, or is it tailored to the customer?

Is this in the centre section at the bottom when you log in or elsewhere on the page?
If it is in said location, then it is an offer tailored to your account conduct.
You can verify your likelihood of being approved for a Barclaycard and which one may be best using this tool, which takes into account your account conduct, credit file, and personal circumstances:

The 'At a Glance' section is above my account details. I have no 'pre-approved offers' link, which have pre-filled details.
I'm quite surprised that the Initial card wasn't advertised, as I have 'next to none'/limited credit history. I used the overdraft twice since being a customer for 1 1/2 years. After reading the criteria for the Classic card, I only meet about 2 of them!
I think I should still open the Initial card though, as I've heard customers applying for products advertised on their online banking can lead to a decline some how....0 -

Kinda, depends how similar your call credit and equifax files are as the pre-checker often uses Call Credit.
If you have more searches on EQ than CC then it may be inaccurate, for example.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I believe sometimes customers can get decline, even though the pre-checker says you are highly to get a certain card. I think the chances of this is 50-50.
Izools, in your opinion, should I go for the Classic card, as per advertisement?0 -
I'd go for the Initial - as you say, you have such limited history.
Besides, run the Initial well and they'll drop your APR to 19.9% after 6~12 months anyway, and again in another 6~12 months, if you askCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I feel that these 'advertisements' are misleading in some way, and are based on:
- account conduct
- money going in/out
- salary
It doesn't take into account credit history at all. If it did, it will an Inital card, not Classic.
When I go into branch, I'll just say I want to apply for a credit card, and see which one they would open.I know I want an Initial, but want to see what they will say - if they say 'Classic', and got accepted, I will accept it.

Criteria from the Barclaycard site for the Classic card:
- Need to strengthen your credit rating and want some time out from paying interest on your balance transfer (Yes for strengthening credit rating , but not balance transfer)
- Have an average credit rating (I believe I have a limited (or even 'next to none' credit history, only used the overdraft twice since account opening, and paid it back immediately. Maybe in Barclays opinion, my credit rating is average as I used their overdraft?)
- You have no history of bankruptcy (no bankruptcy)
- You have not had any County Court Judgments (CCJs) or Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) registered against you in the past 5 years (none of those)
- You have a limited history of managing credit commitments well i.e. have existing credit cards, loans, overdraft or mortgage, but have no more than 2 credit commitments (I have a limited history of managing credit, only an overdraft, which I used twice only)
- Your record of paying credit commitments on time is less than 4 years old (I paid back the overdraft on time and it was early last year)
- You have not missed ANY payments on a credit card or loan in the last 12 months (haven't missed any payments on a credit card or loan, as I don't have one yet)
- Don't already have a Barclaycard (no, haven't even have one)
- Have had a permanent UK address for 3 months or more (lived in the UK for a long time, but put my name on voters roll in 2010, due to age and uni.)
- Have a regular income of more than £15,000 pa (Yes, don't want to disclose income on here. Don't want to brag.
)
- Excluding a mortgage, your debt on credit cards or store cards is less than 40% of your income
- Are aged 21 or over (Yes, 24)
I think they might use their 'customer score', customer profile (including spending patterns), as well as account conduct to generate the Classic card advert.
Now I'm torn between Classic and Initial.0 -
Barclaycard Applications Hotline state that if you apply for a card you are not eligible for, and you are eligible for another, they will include an application form for that product. You won't have to wait six months before re-applying.
So if you apply for a Classic, which you are turned down for, but pass the scoring on Initial, they'll send you an Initial application which you can send right backCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

you can have more than 1 Barclaycard. If you apply through the online pages, it is perfectly possible to be approved for a new card or 2 or even 3. There may be some restrictions such as a shared credit limit (your £3k linit may turn into 2 x £1500)
be warned though, you will probably not be allowed to BT from an existing card to a new one.0
