I went to phones 4 u last summer ( august 2010) to upgrade my orange contract. They gave me £100 to pay off the contract and carry on my new 1. I did so, but I was having problems with orange with my new contract so they terminated it themselves.
I have been getting ample letters, one from northern debt demanding £246 and one today from moorcroft asking for a whopping £847????
They terminated my contract so why should i have to pay that ridiculous sum.
What do i do?

Do you have any paperwork from Orange stating that the contract has been terminated at no cost?
If you have, that needs forwarding to Moorcroft, if not, you need to get on to Orange and find out from them why the debt has been pasted to an agency.0 -
no because when I rang up orange they had no record of my account. But when my partner phoned up to speak to them the guy said it had been terminated ( he wasn't meant to tell us ). I have rung orange today and asked why I have had 2 different debt letters and they simply said " its will always be passed on from one company to another ". I offered to pay then £20 a month to pay off the £246 but they said it was to late and i had to take it up with moorcroft???0

So when you say 'I was having problems with orange with my new contract so they terminated it themselves.' Was that because you stopped paying ?
The debt of £246 will have been sold to a collections company(s), they will add on their own fee's and come looking for the lot.
What were the problems you were having and what did Orange do about it?0 -

The phone was faulty, I had the sony ericsson vivaz, the screen was dodgy. they refused to send me a new one. I was told in phones 4 u that i had unlimited internet acces but accrding to orange i never, so the first bill I had was £75. I disputed that bill and said i would pay for what i used. I didnt pay that bill. and missed another 1 then they terminated it ( i was having a hard time last year money wise).0 -
I'm afraid you can't just stop paying a contract. For whatever reason, you're now in breach of contract. You should have called Orange and disputed the bill and the fact that P4U hadn't put a data bundle on your acc.
They will have terminated the sim when the payments stopped. That doesn't mean they've forgotten the contract. After no contract with you they will have sold the debt on. That's where you are now.
You could try Orange again, but if they've sold your debt I don't know how much they can do at this point. . .0 -
I missed two payments. I had settled a plan with them to pay back monthly installments and the accepted and now i have received this letter.0

So you've been paying them back on the plan you sorted, and you've paid it off? But now you've got the letter from Moorcroft.
If you've paid off the contract then the billing team at Orange will have a record and can get on to Moorcroft and sort it out. If that's the case I don't see where the £246 comes from (It might be me, it's been a long day!). Is that the amount you owed at the start, that you've paid off ?0 -
Just to clarify. Are you certain whether it is the original contract, the new contract or both that you are being chased for?
If you Google "Moorcroft Northern debt" you will see that they hunt as a tandem, so don't get too worried. You can read about the success of one person here. You need that judge !
But you made a big mistake as Jon 01 says. You should never just stop paying and bury your head in the sand. Ostriches are blamed for doing that and they ain't the most intelligent of creatures.
But that's for next time. You need to aither ignore the 2 debt collectors, or ask for a complete breakdown of what they reckon you owe. That gives you time to sort it out with Orange, but you need it in writing that Orange have agreed your plan and will call back in the debt. If they have sold it on, then they don't own it any more, but they should have notified you.0 -

I have wrote my letter to orange and offered a monthly payment. Can they decline? Are they allowed to?0
